But, according to new research, they can already assess someone's intentions towards them, deciding who is a likely friend or enemy. US scientists believe babies acquire the ability to make social evaluations in the first few months of life. It may provide the foundation for moral thoughts and actions in later years, they write in the journal Nature. "By six months, babies have learnt quite a lot and they are taking things in," said Kiley Hamlin, lead author of the research. Babies First Picture Ryan & I went to the Dr's office for our first prenatal visit. We got to see the baby(grub worm) on an ultrasound. It was so amazing, that tiny little life force is inside me. I was so happy that I had Ryan there with me. After a poke of the needle we were of to dinner with babies first picture and home video. We keep watching the dvd of the ultrasound, its just so unreal. When I came home today, Ethar told me that Lurch has taken over "daddy" duties. Lurch would sneak a baby out of the box and clean it if Ethar wasn't constantly watching. Lurch is extremely protective of them...he won't allow Fukker anywhere close to the babies. This is good since Fukker didn't respond well to them. Recently my cousins GF had a baby addicted to xanax roxys methadon and marijuania. She recieved methadone from a clinic and failed two drug tests while there. By law I thought they had to refuse ur metadone when u had other things in ur system. she continued to do methadone and the other drugs the whole time she was pregnant. When the baby was born she had no kind of outside disabilities that we or the doctors saw. Baby Kadence
As many of my close friends know last Thursday was a very scary day for me. I was 33wks pregnant and my placenta ruptured and I had my daughter 2 months early. We both came through an emergency c-section just fine. She has had to spend the first 6 days of her life in a neonatal unit but a week to the day she was born she has been moved to the regular nursery and is breathing on her own and eating really good. today waking up was the worst experience of my life I was covered in blood and in lots of pain. Dustin took me to the hospital and I found out that im pregnant. Usually thats not such a horrible thing but this time it is. They told me that they think im having a tubal pregnancy and that I'm losing the baby and theres nothing they can do for me (no ob in that hospital) but send me home and let the process happen. Baby, It's Cold Outside....
Well...it's starting to get VERY cold here. We had some freezing rain earlier and most of it is still on the grass and rooftops. Baby Scare
My wife and I had real scare yesterday sent into labor at 34wks and the doctors did everything they could stop it, since the babies lungs aren't fully developed yet. And thanks to them they got everything to stop for now at least.

Baby Joe's Update
Well he FINALLY had the hernia surgery....Yesterday Jan10th @ Vanderbilt hospital...was a piece of cake he's a trooper came through it just fine....& is right back to his old self...No follow up appointment needed cuz the Dr said they rarely have any complications after this type of surgery & since he didn't have stitches (they used medical glue) there is no need for them to see him again ...Yay no more trips to Nashville I hate that big city lol Oh & he had his 6month check-up on Monday...He's perfectly healthy & right where he should be developmently ....Weighed 16lbs 6oz & was 28in long

next week... my bffg is having a baby shower. i'm gonna be a godmama in about a month!!! counting down now yay!!! i'm so excited. i'm not sure exactly what all to get her she already has clothes shoes and i don't know what everyone else is going to be bringing. probably the typical pacifiers, bottles,diapers,etc. maybe i'll get something useless like some jewelry.... or maybe i'lll get something she'll need like a carseat... maybe not they are a bit expensive. she already has a stroller. hummm... perhaps i'll get her a monitor so she can hear the baby from any room, or something for her and the baby to listen to. maybe i'll just find a cute doll and give it to her. .... i don't know... so many choices...oh well i have a bit of a while to figure it out so i'll think of something i'm sure.

Babysitting Again Tonight
Well dr said 2 more weeks till the baby gets here YIPPY, thank goodness cause i'm honestly sick of being pregnant. HAHA. well today is gonna be slow till Diana gets here then just sit and watch cartoons more than likely Cause i don't have any toys for her to play with here mom keeps forgetting to bring her toys over, even though i remind her all the time. So my sister had her baby today. She went into the hospital yesterday morning in preterm labor and they were trying to stop it. She was only 30 1/2wks and wasn't supposed to have him until 36wks. She was going to be having a c-secion early because he had a birth defect called gastroschisis. So needless to say their best efforts to stop the labor didn't work and her water broke at 6:30 this morning and then delivered at 12:07pm. They haven't measure his length yet, but he weighed 2lbs 10oz and is doing well. Mom is also doing good, but could be better if she were allowed to hold her brand new, first, baby. But congrats to the new Mommy and Daddy!!!

Baby Check-up
So, I got another ultrasound today to determine if the baby was in the right position.. It turns out the baby is but we still can't tell what the baby's sex is. it had it's legs crossed and scrunched up. The pictures they took are so cute though. Three face pictures (two where the baby was sucking it's thumb) and one picture of the baby digging it's heel into me... Everything seems developed and they didn't change my due date. I have had no problems thoughout this entire pregnancy.. not even morning sickness and it's just a matter of time until I pop...

Baby Blues
While the actual color of our uniform shirts is stated in the catalogue as "Cerulian blue" I am now one of University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's "Baby blue's" This actually refers to two things. One, since my shirt is blue and not white, I work the street rather than work the street and a desk. The second is that I just started there. I think I like Cerulian blue better, it has a calming effect visually and aurally. Try it yourself, just say "Sir'OO lee anne Blooooo" You gotta love it. I think I need it since I haven't seen home for any purpose other than to shower and change clothes since Tuesday morning, and I am working on 4 hours sleep in the last thiry six, I'l be chanting, Cerulian blue all the way to bed. Baby Daddy Drama - Take 2
I went to pick up my daugther from school yesterday. I get this call from Eddie - the 3rd husband of my brother's ex wife. Now for those that don't remember Tina married my brother - divorced, married my ex husband - divorced and then married Eddie. Eddie is pretty cool though and he wanted to let me know that there was going to be drama tonight. It seems that my ex got kicked out of the place he was staying at with his girlfriend. So he has been living in his car for the past two days. Eddie said Tina would call me later to arrange a meeting place so Daryl and I can talk and that if I liked I could let my daughter come stay with them instead this weekend. Checked with her and she was good with staying over there. Went to my mom's house to chill until I got the phone call from Tina - came two hours later. Tina, Eddie and Daryl came over to 'talk' about his situation. I am reasonably sure I should have felt sorry however all I really felt was pity and apathy towards him. The

So my daughter and I had a birthday party to attend today,but instead fo going I let her mother take her.Normally this wouldnt be a problem right,WRONG!Her mother took her there,ate then left her and went somewhere else.Now the party was important because it was a close friends daughters party.If I would have known this was gonna happen,I would've went.My daughter hasnt seen her mother for longer than 4 hours in over 2 weeks.She always has something more important to do.What could make a MOTHER act like this towards their child?How could something else become so much more important?How as a Father do I explain her mothers actions to her?Hopefully she will change her ways before our daughter realizes that she doesnt care.So for everyone out there that matters,I wont be around as often and this is the reason why.Ill be busy being a father.When i am around please say HI because i will miss you.

The pictures below are of my newest family member. Baby Maria Elizabeth! She is only 4 days old but has already had her share of hard times. Lady Shannon Maria Elizabeth Schumann was born April 15, 2007 at 10:19pm...a few hours later, her oxygen levels began to drop, Maria was transported to Cincinnatti Children's medical Center around 4:30 am. She has been stabilized and diagnosed with Tricuspid Atresia with small VSD...in other words, her heart did not completely develop. This is what people used to call "blue baby syndrome". So my hubby came home back in November and I couldn't be even happier. We go home for christmas and we really start talking about having another kid. My daughter just turned 4 in April. She has been wanting someone to play with. I had a miscarriage back in June of 2005 so thats why we waited so long for this one. Things just don't always work out the way you want it to all the time. So anywho back in Dec we really talked and decided we would try for another baby. So we did and of course didn't take us very long. I am now pregnant with our second daughter and very happy. I may not seem to be happy I guess bec its another girl but I think everything will work out for the best. So basically I just wanted to put that up bec it has been on my mind for a while. Winter is over, and people are coming out of hibernation, and during the winter there isn't much to do around here, besides have alot of sex. Therefore there is usually quite alot of pregnant people running around. Me included. Yeppers. Pregnant I am. Why is it that children always decide to act like barn animals on the same day?? About a week ago, I put my kids to bed. All of a sudden, my 18 month old randomly just starts SCREAMING. You would have thought that someone was trying to kill her!! I swear, not 2 seconds later my 4 month old started screaming.. he and my 3 year old share a room.. I walked in there and the WHOLE ROOM was nothing but a white dust cloud... BABY POWDER. When the dust cleared in there, I also found lotion on the floor that my 3 year old thought would help clean up the baby powder. My daughter had ripped off her diaper and was really upset about it.. and my 4 month old couldn't breathe through all the powder. Never in my whole life....

Baby Bok Choy With Sherry And Prosciutto
I Tbsp vegetable oil 4 medium cloves garlic, thinly sliced 6 heads baby bok choy, cut in half lengthwise 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt, more as needed 1/4 cup dry sherry 1/2 cup chicken broth 1 Tbsp soy sauce (use wheat-free soy sauce for wheat-free version of recipe) 1/4 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with a tablespoon of cold water 1/3 to 1/2 cup of thinly sliced prosciutto cut into 1/4-inch strips, or finely chopped 1 Put the oil and garlic into a large, heavy-based sauté pan with a lid. Heat on medium high heat and cook, stirring frequently until the garlic begins to sizzle, about 1 minute. 2 Add the bok choy halves. Use tongs to turn the pieces in the oil. Season with salt. When the bok choy leaves begin to wilt, add the sherry, turning the pieces again. Add the chicken broth, soy sauce, and sugar. Reduce the heat to medium. Cover and simmer until the bok choy tops are wilted and the stalks are crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Using tongs, transfer the bok choy

Baby Kaleb Update.
Kaleb is still doing better. He had an audiology appointment yesterday and that didn't go so well... During the whole test the lady kept sighing and saying "oh, this doesn't look good..." so I was getting a little frustrated. Then she told us that his hearing is now "Grossly Abnormal". She tried a bunch of different tests and still thinks that he cannot hear. I don't believe her though because I KNOW HE CAN. I will call his name and he will turn his head. The audiologist said that the damage to the hearing is in the brain, not in the ears. I will not accept this because she is not there when I walk into his bedroom and he hears me and turns towards me. Even his Home health nurse says she thinks he can hear. So yesterday wasn't the greatest day... But I am not going to let this get to me. One good thing is that today when I was taking a picture of Kaleb his eyes were half open, and when the flash went off, he opened his eyes. The doctors came in this morning and are saying that they are not expecting the baby to live. He is having strokes one after another. They said if the child were to live that he would be completely blind and he will be a vegetable for the rest of his life. And will be dependant on life support for the rest of his life. The parents who done this to the child are in the custody of the state and are behind bars, possibly facing murder charges. So what was supposed to be a SIMPLE Airlift transport turned into a 3 1/2 hr cluster fuck. Baby Update/hospital Visit
Most of you know that I'm about 7 weeks pregnant. I had a scare yesturday and had to go to the hospital. I have been bleeding and with my history with miscarriages I didn't want to take any chances. They did blood work and ran some tests. I was put a little at ease when they told me that everything is normal except the fact that I'm bleeding. Yesterday my niece had her baby shower, all the family was there to lend our support. Since this wasn't your typical shower, not a lot of baby gifts were given, but they all were special gifts none the less. My mom, her grandmother, made her a special christening gown for Eva to wear to be christened in. Some clothes, blankets and books too. All the other things a baby needs {diapers, bath time toys, car seat, changing table, crib} were not received, and probably not on the registry anyway. Nathan has developed pneumonia. I went to see him on Wednesday afternoon. They say he is doing better and that they are going to try to take the breathing tube out Thursday(today). My sister-in-law is in the hospital for emergency surgery. So my wife and I are watching our 10 month old neice until my SIL gets home in a few days. It is nice having a baby in the house again. The last time this happened was when our youngest daughter was 7 years younger. My wife is great at figuring out when a baby is hungry, needs to be changed or is otherwise upset. I am better at entertaining babies with funny faces playing with baby toys. We both mastered changing diapers. But my wife is the better bather of babies. So it should be an interesting next couple of days.

Well I went to have my ultrasound yesterday and was SUPPOSED (supposed being the key word)to be able to find out the sex. WELL the baby had other plans and decided to keep "her" legs closed... therefore I really dunno if I am having a little girl or a little boy which really sucks because I prolly won't find out until "she" is born. YES I call "her" a "she" because I just have a feeling it's going to be a girl and I REALLY want a little girl. LOL!! BUT not to complain.. "she" is perfectly healthy and nothing was wrong with "her". :D I'm due in July so I guess We will just have to wait til then lol.

Anyone who knows me or has viewed the pictures on my profile knows that I'm a single father of a handsome little boy named Ethan. He's my world, and I bust my ass on the road so he can have anything he wants or needs. His mother had another little boy over a year ago with another man, and as confusing and frustrating as it may seem, I reserved judgment and kept things civil, all for the sake of my son. And I will admit, being a single parent with 2 children is harder than any full time job. I took my daughter for her check up yesterday and things are looking up!! She gained 5 pounds since her last visit and the Dr seemed very pleased. I had a baby shower on Sunday, and NO ONE showed up! Can you believe that?! I can't....super lame. I was SO embarrassed!!! I feel really bad for my mom because she put out a bunch of money for it to make sure I had a nice party, and this shit used to happen to her growing up-she would have birthday parties and no one would come. I had to pick and choose who I invited because of family drama, too, which is very irritating! I guess we should have just had it before I had Loki....who knows?!

Baby Boy
In a few hours it will officially be my baby boy's first birthday. I can't hardly believe how fast this past year has gone. It's been quite the rough year, but we survived, and to say the least, I couldn't be happier how it all turned out. I can't seem to imagine my life without him. Even when I was pregnant and scared and wasn't sure about anything. It saddens me to think that the first year has flown by this fast and the next stage in his life is eminent. I will celebrate with him, even though he won't remember. So to say the least, if I'm not on here at all on this day, it's because I'm doing the mommy thing with my birthday boy.

Baby Has Arrived
My son has finally arrived, albiet a couple of months early. He is now 5 days old and is doing wonderfully. He is strong an healthy, breating room air now, and even taking breast milk through his feeding tube for the last few days. We put his binky in his mouth during feeding and he just goes to town on it, lol. I have new pics in his folder if anyone wants to look at them. Off to visit my wonderful son now....

Baby Update
As of the Dr appointment today the baby still seems to be growing even though my daughter lost some weight from her last visit. Hopefully this is just a sign she is getting ready for the delivery. No signs of labor pains yet. The baby however now appears not to be turned all the way around. He is head first just face up rather then down. Depending on how things go this week the Dr may schedule a 3rd sonogram. Thanks again to all who have had my daughter and her unborn son in their prayers.

Baby Bugz ~ Update!
Today (March 17th, 2008) (St. Patrick's Day)... I went today for Genetic Counseling. Since I'm 40 years old, they do this to make sure the baby doesn't have any genetic defects. I talked to the counselor for quite a while, giving family history, etc. He gave me some choices on what I could do: Do nothing Schedule an Amniocentesis Schedule CVS testing Get Ultrasound Get Integrated Screening So, I chose to get the ultrasound and the Integrated Screening. They can measure the fluid behind the baby's neck to determine if it's at risk for Down's Syndrome. This measurement was good, so that's a good sign. They also took the first tube of blood for the Integrated Screening to check my blood for abnormalities. The can check for Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 18, and Open Neural Tube defects. They will take my blood and do another ultrasound on May 1st. The heartbeat was 160 beats per minute. The baby was moving around and even standing on his/her head at one point,
