2004. That was the last year I did anything political. And it wasn't much -- I attended precinct caucuses, but Clark was already out of the running anyway so I only made a half-hearted attempt to be elected delegate to the national convention. Before that, 2002 was the last time I ever did any active campaigning, helping out a phone bank for Wellstone a few months before he died.
So yesterday I'm driving home, and my cell phone goes off-- it's a number I didn't recognize, so I didn't answer it. I just discovered they left me a message. It's Franken for Minnesota, I guess they're having some cozy little get-together, and they want me to attend [read: soft fundraiser]. Okay fine.
But my real question is, How do they find me?!?!? I'm using a completely different number from 2004, plus it's a cell phone. And they have my address, too. A couple of weeks ago I got a Ceresi for Senate mailing. I don't remember ever notifying the DFL (that's the democratic party in Minnesota) of my change in address. Sheesh.
In any event, it's way to early. The election's NEXT YEAR folks. NEXT YEAR! At least 15 months and some change. And all my friends wonder why I don't care as much about politics anymore. Well, it's not that I don't care, it's just that I'm tired of being involved in it. I still follow it very closely, but starting up massive campaigns this early is only going to further alienate people from the process...and make them more cynical about it, if that's even possible.
But seriously, how did they find me?
