Maybe more cruel than funny...
One April 1st, my staff was unrelenting with their tricks on me. Chair stolen, phone unplugged, coffee mug taped to the desk, desk locked. I was afraid to leave my office figuring "what would be next?"
It was well known that when someone was fired from the company, they were always called to conference room #1 at 5:00. So at about 2:00 in the afternoon, I circulated a memo to my department which said "Chet - please have you and your staff meet me in conference room #1 at 5:00." and forged the company chairman's signature on the memo.
For the next three hours my staff was freaked out. They were asking me what we did wrong, whether the whole company was closing, whether we were all being fired, what about unemployment, etc... Two of my staff actually got boxes and started cleaning out heir desks. When 5:00 came they walked up to my office and said "It's 5:00. Aren't you coming?" and I just looked up from my desk, smiled and said "April Fools".
I've needed a bodyguard since then.
