Onyx's blog: "Rambling thoughts"

created on 04/24/2007  |  http://fubar.com/rambling-thoughts/b76695
Ok ya'll this one is a little bit different. There are tiems we have all needed something for a specific occasion that we KNOW we will never use again. Case in point, I'll use Superbowl as another reference. You have 50 of your closest friends comming over to your 1 bedroom apartment for the game and all you have is a 27 inch TV you snagged from your parents 10 years ago when you finally moved out. You decide that you have a choice you can pay rent for the next 3 months, and eat. or you can go out and buy an new 41" Flat screen TV to wow all your friends. TV wins. As you head to the store (Friends in Tow) you decide that along with the TV you are going to need more plates, cups and dishes. You head to the Deli to order 10 6' subs. that should feed 50 ppl right? You pick out your TV and new dishes and head to the checkout. Actually remembering that you have a Large item, you brought a large truck to tkae TV home in. You pay for your items an head home. Two weeks later, The game is over the food is gone the dishes( minus a few) are washed and repacked into the box as best you could, and you borrow said truck to bring TV back to store because you never really intended to keep it after the game. When you get to the store, even though the employee at the service desk is smiling she is thinking " yeah I am SURE that Tv is really broken" She gives you your money back for the TV, the dishes,( you said they didnt match your dining room)and glass ware. After you get your money and head home you are excited you can still pay rent this month and get something to put in the fridge besides the left over deli subs that you will be eating for the next 3 weeks. Do you realize the process after you leave the store. That employee that took back your stuff will now send them to claims. The dishes being a breakable item are more than likely marked down to Zero in the system and the store takes a loss. The TV will be turned on at the store and found to work perfectly, although the remnants of the sub sandwich someone tossed at the screen will have to be wiped off. Tht TV will now have to be resold as a discounted item and the store will once again take a loss. Then people wonder why the price of items seem to be going up at the store. This is a VERY common occurance. If I am correct ther are places you can go, for almost anything, that will rent yes RENT items to you for any occasion. Yes it is possible to RENT a larger TV and dishes. You may not think about this when wanting that 41" TV in your living room. But did you really want to spend that much on a TV to keep it and put yourself in debt that much?? There are other items you would never think of that this happens to quite a bit. BBQ Grills... ya know you have that big ole BBQ for those same 50 friends but dont need one that big the rest of the time, Camping gear.... lets just go buy it and then bring it back used and dirty and smelling like campfire. Oh but you never used it right? oh well you get my drift..... So when buying an item that you dont really intend on keeping think about what happens on the other end and YES we KNOW you are lying when you bring it back.... Just tell that employee that you are a fuck nut and had it for what you needed it for and are done. So next time you buy something that is an occasional item ( Tent, BBQ grill,Big screen, sheet sets for mother-in-law) think about if you might need it again or just that once.... and RENT it ya pin head! Thanks again, ~Onyx~
