The Techie Test results

Your result for The Techie Test...

The Techie

Well, you did it. You have ascended to that highest level. You don't just use technology, you don't just have a basic knowledge of how it works... you bend it to your very will. You don't use technology... you control it.

You have a questioning nature, and you love to know what makes things tick. This is the mark of the true tech-head. It's no good simply being able to make use of someone elses creation, unless you can make it yourself. You've probably made at least your own website, and possible your own web server. You build your own computers, and own at least 2. You know the word "mod" means more than just Counterstrike. Heck, there's a chance that you've never PLAYED Counterstrike... such things are beneath you.

A new frontier has been building the last few decades, and you're riding the crest of the wave. But to stay on top like this takes a focussed mind... too focused, often. You risk losing track of what's really real, of people and feelings. You're probably here because you feel something is missing. And one thing you can never program... is love.

I want to remind folks that Friday is national System Administrator Day. Show your appreciation, people!
After spending a few hours replacing the CPU fan, my homemade gaming rig is now functional! *maniacal laughter* For its birthing cry, I loaded up Unreal Tournament III, and it was glorious. Tomorrow, BF2142 and Civ IV...

Google Earth Goodness

Back in the day, computer programs (like Excel '97) would have what were called "easter eggs": random little stuff hidden within the app, put there by bored and mischievous programmers. As it turns out, there's one of those clever individuals at Google. In the latest version of Google Earth, if you press Ctrl+Alt+A a simple flight simulator comes up! Once you use it once, it's available in the toolbar, also. I normally don't care one way or another about flight sims, but seeing the Cascades in the distance as I looked down upon the -real- Seattle felt different from the approximations in games like MS Flight Simulator. I can't wait to get to my force-feedback joystick (with my stuff in storage on Oahu), since joysticks are supported. There are two planes to choose from, and if the feature becomes popular, hopefully more will be added. When Google can survive (via advertisers) and offer fun & useful stuff like this for free, it makes me wonder if other companies will follow this trend of treating users with goodwill & respect.

Xbox Gaming Goodness

Woo! The latest Xbox 360 backwards-compatibility update is out, and one of my all-time favorite Xbox games now works, Guilty Gear X2#Reload!!! Also, I'll now be able to play Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers, Magic: The Gathering - Battleground, and Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf. Ironically, the Magic game is the only one of those that I actually have -here- with me. The current backwards-compatible list can be found at: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm Also, I've decided that when I get back home, the original Xbox will be made into a media-extender, either with Microsoft's official kit, or the open-source Xbox Media Center firmware (which sounds more versatile, and exciting to install).
