Well it took two airbrushes, an epic retail saga
hundreds of dollars
hours of procrastination
and pretty much learning the entire process from one or two people and a few hundred pictures with japanese captions
but my Super Deformed ("Chibi" or cutesy) Neue Ziel is complete.
...
you'll get pictures later.
I learned a few things
like... even though you think you're done, you should do a spot cover coat.
And the extra mass from the paint does make the sockets rub funny.
Also...
dribbley bits.
Y'know... when the paint dries you need to consider where/if it'll pool and how best to keep it from pooling.
I probably need to get a higher grade paint... heh
maybe when I'm being more serious.
So
modifications for this kit
...
HAH
2 1/2 coats of primer 3 1/2 coats of black high gloss acrylic.
...
That's it.
I pulled it apart at the major parts, colored all the parts that were previously green and replaced the gray panels, and put her back together.
There's some rough edges, some parts where the flecks came off (turns out extracting the painted parts from the drying aparatus can damage the paint if not done with care :P)
And its not an optimal fit because... there's paintses in the sockets
but she's back together.
I think she looks better than she did before.
And I like this shade of black.
If I had it all to do over again
and I do... this shit comes off with your fingernail
I'd probably mask all the turrets and jets and color them... red?
I'd repaint all the gray surfaces like the manipulators, claws and waist pipe a high sheen metallic.
Gold or steel.
As I was wrapping up I had two directions I think I wanted to go.
1. Fix the deathscythe hell
2. Start immediately on my 1/144 Gouf paint job, decant my matte finish spray paint... and see if its enamel or acryllic I guess >>
It hadn't even occured to me until recently to do that.
Is it necessary?
... *makes a vague gesture*
I think it is.
I hand painted some of the panels and trim when I was 12 so...
It kinda looks like hell in a few parts.
It also occured to me that this would be a great opportunity to
REALLY fuck this kit up.
... I use that term a lot since I heard Zacl De La Rocha use that for a cypress hill remix that sounded effing awesome.
What do I have to lose? Its 1/100 ungraded (low articulation, low color accuracy, low detailing)
What am I out if it turns out poorly? A kit I'm ashamed of that can stand on its own 2 feet? (massive stability issues in these kits too).
Food for thought. In the meantime... I dunno. I'm going to bed, getting coffee in the morning, and weighing my next project.
I know Gouf paint job has been on my mind for a long damn time.
But ... DSH is kinda owed. Redemption and all that rot.
And... it'd be good masking experience.
And... it might not be that big of a job.
unless I go crazy *nods slowly*.
And after I saw Toymaker and DC23's work, that's a distinct possibility.
Pictures later. Sleep now.
