My screen name:JKD is the intials for "Jeet Kune Do" Chinese(Mandarin I think) for "The Way if the intercepting fist" a method founded by Bruce Lee,and today popularised in cage fighting teqnique.The key is footwork always always footwork-I love my job beacuse I have many oppertunities to perfect footwork cause I walk constantly over a ginormous warehouse.At 43 I still have the belly of an 18 y/o as a result of this walk and the isometrics involved.It came natural beacuse as a kid I had to tread lightly beacuse we always lived in The Upstairs Apartment and the neighbors would bitch if they heard a loud fart-anyway,upper body strength is wonderfull and common amougst men-Pushups and weightlifting take care of this but legs and lower belly are much neglected.A tip for working your legs and belly in everyday life w/o the use of weights is as follows:
The key Ive found is being aware of your arches,and stepping lightly.I always lead with one hip as I walk.Goint back to the technique JKD emphasises footwork as a key to delivering a blow,or retreating to avoid one,so to this end even as Im stepping foreward,Im ready on a split second timing to step and move in the oppisite direction,or circle away.All the while im very much aware of my lower belly as flexed and ready to spring-Be it a kick or using my centerpoint to deliver a blow. Best way i can describe this relaxed-ready-to-spring movement is try walking dow a flight of stairs slightly sideways and tread as lightly as you can,your hips pooched slightly forward,shoulders down-always maintain an atitude/posture of "readyness" but not tenseness.As you continue with this youll find your self adapting easily to this walk.Its awkwards at first but as you tone up youll find it easily adapted to-
