RevJ's blog: "Wicked Rants"

created on 01/24/2008  |  http://fubar.com/wicked-rants/b181230
It is dangerous duty, requiring each motorcycle officer to overtake the motorcade at speeds up to 70 mph, slingshot ahead of it, then stop abruptly at an intersection before the caravan arrives. The "motor jockey" holds traffic at the intersection until the last car rolls through, then speeds ahead to perform the maneuver again. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's motorcade met tragedy Friday when one of these motorcycle escorts, a Dallas police officer, was killed as he failed to negotiate a curve and slammed into a concrete guardrail. It happened about 9:15 a.m. as the motorcade was headed across the Houston Street Viaduct toward a rally in Oak Cliff. Senior Cpl. Victor Lozada was one of more than 30 motorcycle officers whose job it was to hold traffic at intersections while the black SUVs and patrol cars of the motorcade rolled through Dallas. As the caravan headed south across the viaduct, Cpl. Lozada rounded a curve during his leapfrog toward the front. He apparently was unable to manage the turn. Cpl. Lozada's motorcycle ran up onto a sidewalk lining the viaduct, its momentum forcing it against the concrete railing, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation. Then it slammed head-on into a concrete outcropping. The 49-year-old catapulted dozens of feet forward along the roadway, the force of the crash knocking off his helmet. Senior Cpl. Victor Lozada The motorcycle, driver and helmet lay on the road as the motorcade snaked around the wreckage. One of Cpl. Lozada's colleagues crouched over him, with his hand on the fallen officer's shoulder. Mrs. Clinton saw it and asked to stop, according to a dignitary traveling with the campaigning presidential candidate's motorcade. "They said that it would [slow] the ambulance getting to him, so they wouldn't allow us to stop," said Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. "She was devastated. She wanted to visually see what had happened." A squad car peeled off the motorcade to seal off traffic from the viaduct behind it. Meanwhile, Mrs. Clinton and Cpl. Lozada's fellow motorcycle officers pressed ahead without him. While Mrs. Clinton greeted supporters in Oak Cliff, police officials sent officers to pick up Cpl. Lozada's wife, Theresa, from their Plano home. The officers also gathered the couple's children from school – two sons and two daughters ranging in age from 9 to 22. Mrs. Lozada "was very strong," said one of those officers, Senior Cpl. Robert Garcia, a friend and former partner of Cpl. Lozada. "She told the children that their daddy would always love them and to remember him for what he was. She's just a good, strong-willed woman." By the end of the rally, Mrs. Clinton got word that Cpl. Lozada was dead. She expressed regret for his family and fellow officers. "I certainly am grateful for all they do for me, and more importantly, what they do for the citizens of cities like Dallas and others across our country," she told a small group of reporters and supporters. Site of fatal crash The motorcade then shuttled her to Fort Worth, where she addressed a crowd of excited supporters only to say she was calling off the event because of the crash. The motorcade then returned her to Dallas. She was whisked inside Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where Cpl. Lozada had been pronounced dead soon after his arrival. Just outside the hospital's trauma unit, police officials stood about as Cpl. Lozada's family gathered in a visitation room. Police Chief David Kunkle and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert accompanied Cpl. Lozada's wife during the senator's 10- or 15-minute visit. Mrs. Lozada told the former first lady how proud her husband had been to escort her. "What she talked about was that when he got ready to come to work today, that he wore a new uniform," Chief Kunkle said later. "He also recognized the importance of his role of ensuring that a very important person was safe and took a lot of pride in that." Outside the hospital, several dozen of Cpl. Lozada's fellow motor jockeys parked their black-and-white motorcycles in formation. After the senator's visit, they filed inside the hospital, helmets in hand, to pay their own respects to the family. At a news conference outside the hospital, Chief Kunkle spoke of the perils of being a motorcycle escort. "The accident is still under investigation, but the motorcycle escorts we do are very dangerous," the chief said. "They require officers to speed up and ride ahead of the motorcade, and do that over and over again." Late Friday, a motorcycle was set up in a memorial by the entrance to the Central Patrol station at 334 S. Hall St. Officers began surrounding it with cards, flowers and notes of farewell. "He was a good guy; he was one of the very few good guys," said his friend, Cpl. Garcia. Cpl. Lozada earned more than 135 commendations during his 20 years as a Dallas police officer, one of them as recently as a week ago. In 1992, he and another officer earned a Life Saving Award for helping an 11-month-old baby who was choking on a small toy. As the baby began to turn blue, Cpl. Lozada held it upside down and swatted it on the back. He and the other officer were able to dislodge the toy and the baby breathed again. Fellow officers say Cpl. Lozada was a devout family man who coached his son's soccer team and worked off-duty details at Target to earn money for his daughters' quinceañeras. For many years, he served as a community policing officer, working especially to build ties between the department and Hispanic youth. He sometimes attended events in a "low rider" patrol car equipped with hydraulics. "He would make it do all kind of crazy gyrations," Cpl. Garcia said. The car was uniquely successful at grabbing the attention of at-risk kids. More recently he served as a traffic officer, driving a marked Chevy Camaro. A few months ago, an opening came up in the motorcycle unit, and he applied. "I used to catch him in the hallway and tease him and say, 'Why would you want to go to motors?' " said Deputy Chief Tom Lawrence, commander of the traffic unit. "He said, 'It's something that I've always wanted to do.' " Cpl. Lozada had the job for a little over a month before Friday's crash. "He was real happy," Cpl. Garcia said. "He was just doing what he wanted to do."

SO MUCH FOR FAMILY!!!!

Well last night I went to the TOXIC TERROR TOUR at the Worcester Palladium and droped my Boost i415 cell phone in the 'pit'. No sooner did it hit the ground it dissapeared. I felt it leave my shirt pocket and seen the glow of the screen on the floor when I went to pick it up, about 5 feet away, it just vanished. I could see the screen come up off the floor then it went dark. Of course everyone in the spot I asked said they didn't pick up a phone. So much for FAMILY! FAMILY is supposed to lookout for each other, not steal from them. I waited till the show ended and the house lights came up to look around some more just the be sure and to my surprise there was dozens of ninjas scouring the floors looking for anything that had been droped. One mutha-facko picked up two wallets and ran for the door! One was red and black and the other was black with white hatchet man and flames on it. I am pissed, that phone had numbers in it I took years to compile, numbers to cops, clients, police departments, people I have married, family, friends, co-workers and more. As a Private Detective this loss is a major hit! I am screwed some of these numbers are ones that can not be given to civilians so I'm gonna get screwed by various law enforcement communities! If anyone was there and may have found this phone or know who has it please email me I need it back and a rewad may be offered!!!!!

If you unexpectedly receive a Valentine's Day e-card, be careful. It may not be from a secret admirer, but instead might contain the Storm Worm virus. With the holiday approaching, be on the lookout for spam e-mails spreading the Storm Worm malicious software (malware). The e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve the electronic greeting card (e-card). Once the user clicks on the link, malware is downloaded to the Internet-connected device and causes it to become infected and part of the Storm Worm botnet. A botnet is a network of compromised machines under the control of a single user. Botnets are typically set up to facilitate criminal activity such as spam e-mail, identity theft, denial of service attacks, and spreading malware to other machines on the Internet. The Storm Worm virus has capitalized on various holidays in the last year by sending millions of e-mails advertising an e-card link within the text of the spam e-mail. Valentine's Day has been identified as the next target. Be wary of any e-mail received from an unknown sender. Do not open any unsolicited e-mail and do not click on any links provided. A NEW CITY!

Looks like the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantains may shrink by July 2009! The State currently consists of 39 Cities and Towns but a new line of this years election ballot looks to change that. State Rep Nicholas Gorham (R) [Coventry] says that merging the communities of EXETER, FOSTER, GLOUCESTER, SCITUATE, W. COVENTRY, & W. GREENWICH into a new city; the City of Westconnaug will save the State money. This will reduce the number of Cities and Towns in from 39 to 35. Gorham believes that such a merger will save the State and the effected Communities in the long run. This will create a unified School district, Police, Fire, and City Government. Rather then the finical burden of 6 towns they will combined their resources in to a single entity. What does this mean, it means a loss of jobs for many! Right now there are 6 police Chiefs, Mayors or Town Managers, School Superintendents, Fire Chiefs etc. The unification of these towns would change that to 1 of each and each city or town will loose its core Governmental employee base. A great number of people will be with out jobs within the inspectors, clerks, town employees. Yes it's a good idea in theory but in practicality I'm not so sure!

IDIOT!

Shortly before 5am this morning some one operating a Volvo that apparently broke down left their vehicle in the high speed travel lane of Rt I-95 north in front of the Providence Place Mall and walked off. Moments later a major accident was caused by this abandoned vehicle killing one and leaving one other in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police are still looking for the driver of the Volvo whom may face charges in the death of one, and should the other pass too they may be charged with that as well. As a driver for AAA I work nights and often find abandoned vehicles on the road way, some times in the travel lanes. In a case like this I will hook the vehicle and move it off to the break down lane for safety, and always notify the State Police. Some times the owner is a AAA member and we end up towing them off the road later on. Even if you are not a member of AAA; if your broke down on the highway and you see one of our trucks coming flag us down. We can do one of two things. 1) Sign you up for membership right there on the spot. 2) Even if we don't sign you up for membership we will tow your vehicle off the next exit to a safe area. If you are not a member and wish to sign up now send me a message and I can sign you up if you live in RI or MA. Cost is $58.oo per year if you use a card and sign up for auto renewal. This is a great thing to have, with membership up to 4 times a year we will come out to you and change your flat, unlock your doors, jump start your car, or tow your car if needed. You will receive 3 free miles on the tow and after that only pay $3.oo per mile. If you go over your 4 calls for the year you will be charged a convince fee of $25.oo to have us come out to you. Either way the membership will more then pay for itself the first time you use it. If you call a regular tow company your going to be charged at least $75.00 for them to show up no matter what the reason for the call. Anyway I got off track a bit, if anyone knows whom the driver of the abandoned Volvo is please contact the RI State Police at 401-444-1100 of contact me if you want your name left out of it, as a Private Detective I can help!

One of my many jobs is with AAA as a full time over night tow driver, I am the only drier that is certified and authorized to utilize all of our equipment. (Flatbed, Wheel Life, Sling, Boom and Self Loader) Not even the night super can operate half the equipment I can. I have worked on and off fo nearly 18 years as a tow operator and have more experience then the majority of our drivers. Yet I am paid the sae rate as the other drivers on my shift and have been screwed out of two raises in the past 6 months. Three of the four other night drivers are lazy and I consistently turn in run sheets with two to three times more runs then them in the same time frame. These guys would rather sleep in their trucks then work; and yes they park in the parking lot of a local Dunkin Donuts and sleep in the trucks. These guys do what ever they want an demand things they clearly do not deserve nor have they earned. One driver in particular demanded he be given my truck as his permanent e truck and got it! This guy has only been here for a few months and had no experience when he came in to the company. He must be a product of the baby boomer generation; he has the mentality "GIVE IT TO ME; ITS MINE!" God forbid I ask for a specific piece of equipment that will make things easier and greatly reduce the risk of damage to a members car. I invested nearly $1,000 in personal equipment for extrications since he company don't see fit to issue it to me from the stock they have. Yet these clowns that have no clue how to utilize certain items like the cruse loop or continuous loop get them. Tonight I had 3 tows; back to back that totaled over 300 miles driving, 2 of them where assigned to another driver who cried he didn’t feel like driving out of state so I got stuck with them. On top of these 3 jobs I did 5 other jobs tonight and all in an 9.5 hour period, one of the 2other drivers on with me tonight did only 5 calls and the other did only 3. I know I check their run sheets when I got in! I had three jobs that totaled over 300 miles driving, 50+ miles from pick up to drop off one way and I did this three times! These guys never take late calls and often claim they don’t have time to do a job 2 hours prior to the end of their shift, and these are light service jobs like a tire change, our of gas, jump start or lock out. I often stay late and assist our members because that is my job, these guys don’t want to work. I am definitely not getting paid what I am worth; on top of getting screwed out of two raises and my truck. A truck I took a lot of pride in; when I came it to the company over a year ago every time I looked at it I felt as though I needed tetanus shot! Now you can eat off the floor. All the equipment was maintained and the truck was properly equipped for most jobs and has over 200,000 miles on it. Our members would get into the truck and ask if it where new! I mean I cleaned this thing inside and out, used a steam cleaner to clear the gung off the windows, seats and floors, applied touch up paint to the cab and body as well I washed it daily & waxed it weekly. Now this no talent hack stamps his feet and cries I like this truck better and I want it because its clean and neat and everything is here. He’s had it for about a week and its already totally thrashed, back to its original condition when I first got into it. This guy is a slob and a half, every truck he’s ever driven he’s been thrown out of by the regular full timers assigned those trucks because he’s a slob. He first got into my truck as a chance of luck, I came in a few hours early and took out a wrecker for the night since my truck was on the road. When he came in his truck was out of service; I had towed it in because of an electrical fire so he got the only remaining flat bed that was in the lot; MINE! And I got screwed, blued and tattooed. The last straw was last night when he decided he didn’t want to work and I got shafted. I’m debating weather or not to hand in my resignation or not. Monday I will go have a sit down with the bosses and see what happens. I can only take so much, granted it the benefits are top notch and the highest in the state, the tips used to be good too. When I first started I was averaging an extra two grand a month in tips alone, here lately I’m lucky to take in a hundred bucks. Because of these lazy drivers I get extra work and takes longer to get from one job to the next because of my increased work load. I average about 15 to 17 calls a night on the weekends now; prior to these guys it was 5 to 7 calls a night. The dispatchers don’t even know what they are doing; but, since I don’t kiss their asses and bring the coffees every night I get it in the end! Every week the top three drivers for each class is posted for the calls per hour they do. I’m almost always on the list and I work over nights! Whoa this started out as a mumm as to weather or not I should tell’em to park the truck in their ass and blew up to be a full blown rant!

JUGGALOS IN THE WRONG

A news 10 report from Sacramento CA back in Feb 2007 just came to my attention. In this report 4 teens claiming to be Juggalos are charged with setting several fires and creating over one million dollars worth of damage. They claim they did it because they are Juggalos and thats what we do. This is ludicrous! These teen-aged infants set these fires because they are idiots to say the least and to claim they did it because they are Juggalos make as all look bad. Here in New England we are still fighting to distance our selves from a news story from 2005 where a New Bedford MA teen; Jacob Robida, entered a neighborhood gay bar sat down had a drink and then; with out warning, shot and attacked several people with a hatchet before fleeing west where he later shot and killed a police officer, his girl friend and himself at a police road block. In CA they are attempting to classify the Juggalo Community as street gangs under California Penal Law we qualify as such. By wearing hatchet gear, face paint, Juggalo tattoos, hand signs are all required elements of being classified as a Gang. Yet many gang units in CA have not even heard of the Juggalo until this news report. As a result any Juggalo walking down the street can be treated as a gang member; they can be stopped and searched with out cause for wearing a hatchet man or having stickers on their cars related to the Juggalo Community or Psychopathic Records. This includes being surrounded by a bunch of cops and pulled out of your vehicles at gun point just because you are a Juggalo. Yes the family is made up of out casts and rejects from all walks of life, many have made stupid mistakes in their lives but to lump as all as a blood thirsty gang of cut throats and vandals is ridiculous. How many news reports are there of reported Juggalos committing acts of violence. Less then a few! As they say it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bushel. Now because of these idiots Juggalos in CA and New England have a lot more grief and aggravation to deal with on a daily basis. Recently some of my co workers found one of my websites and begun harassing me over it when one of the other guys in the company set them straight on being a Juggalo but what I disagree with is him calling it a religion and telling these guys they could be fired for harassing someone over their beliefs. It's easy for someone to call something they don't under stand an occult because they are so closed minded they can't understand something different. All through out history wars have been fought over this very issue. Now we are finding our selves in a war of sorts to gain under standing and acceptance.
