As I came upon a butterfly yesterday
I was sure when she saw me, she would fly away
She was the most beautiful thing I ever saw
Yet as I was staring at her in complete awe
She instead did something that really surprised me
She just stared at me back and did not try to flee
Why would anything that is so full of such beauty
Ever be interested in simple old me
This is what the butterfly told me in reply
As she flapped her wings to take her into the sky
It is far more important what we have inside
And not the colors we may show on the outside
Then with a butterfly kiss placed upon my lips
Away from my view did my butterfly eclipse
Leaving me to hope that soon one bright sunny day
She will again be flying back upon my way
