“The People In My Life” © by Solitary Rider aka Andyboy Georgia
When my travels reach a junction
and I find a new hometown
there are strangers I’ll soon call neighbors
who will ask me where I’m from
some of us are drifters
and the names and faces change
though the friends I know are distant
I look around and say
these are the people in my life
and I’m doin’ ok, I’m doin’ alright
well there’s Gertrude from the motel
who referred me for a room
and the landlord whose an asshole
but he’s been away since June
think I’ll drive on to the grocery
buy home cookin’ from a can
then have a chat with a check-out queen
yeah maybe I’ll make a fan
these are the people in my life
and I’m doin’ ok, I’m doin’ alright
Mr. Postman forward my address
to Anytown USA
I’ve been kicked around this country
never finding’ a place to stay
but whether you stay and your roots get long
or you leave to find your way
there’ll be people on the horizon
on your same train, your same train
whether you're town or country
it doesn’t matter who you are
it’s a strange and changing’ cast
but you’ll always be the star
there are scoundrels and some losers
who will test your fortitude
be strong and independent
but don’t forget the few
here’s to the people in your life
who truly want
what’s best for you
yes they do
in your life, in your life
