Poem: Take a Stand
>
> Close your eyes
> if you want to see
> The world the way
> you wish it to be
> Keep them closed
> nice and tight
> To rid the troubles
> from your sight
> Be blind to the drugs
> on the street
> And the children that
> are constantly beat
> Be numb to the families
> that starve each day
> And the people
> without a home to stay
> Unaware of the elders
> needing medical attention
> And the slowly decrease
> in retirement pension
> Forget the rising costs of
> our daily needs
> And a gang member
> whos gunshot continuously bleeds
> Turn the cheek
> as an abortion takes place
> And when discrimination occurs
> because of our race
> Be deaf to the protestors
> on the news we see
> And to the desperate cry
> of an orphans plea
> Ignore the increase
> of drug addiction
> And all religious readings
> with the world end prediction
> Close your mind to
> the gay or straight
> And to their beliefs
> of who to love or hate
> But if you are strong
> and want to do your part
> Then open your eyes
> along with your heart
> You can make a difference
> soon you will see
> begin by donating
> to your favorite charity
> Or be the one
> to take a stand
> by offering help
> with an extended hand
> But if you are weak
> and can't bare to see
> what is happening
> to you and me
> Then shut your eyes
> if you want to see
> The world the way
> you perceive it to be
> Keep them closed
> nice and tight
> And go to sleep thinking
> everything is alright
> But when you wake
> nothing will change
> until something happens
> causing your priorities to
> rearrange!
