Memphis is the city in which I have lived all of my life, it is the city in which I was born, raised, became and adult, a parent and now it is the city in which I shake my head in disgust at.
Of course it is not just my hometown where homicides, robberies, rapes etc. are occurring too frequently to count, so what exactly is the solution. What can be done to Stop the Violence?
At night when I watch the news, I hear stories of murder, murder and more murder. I hear story after story of robberies, scandals and all around violence.
Everyday I see lil gang bangers hanging out, shooting dice, smoking weed and just generally not caring that they are blocking people from getting by and even worse that elderly people are passing by and shaking their heads at how the young generation is ruined and out of control. Some people won’t even ask to get by because they are afraid they will be harmed. It is a sad day and time when you don’t want to interrupt a group of teenage boys who are shooting dice, just so you can get to your own car, that is very, very sad.
How is it that things went from bad to worse in what seems like the blink of an eye. I know that the years do pass by swiftly, but I would have never imagined that children would be bringing guns to school (and actually using them). That there would be so much gang activity in the schools that the teachers would be afraid to reprimand certain students for fear that they would be hurt for telling a gang member what to do. Who would have thought that I would be … that you would be raising children in a day and age where you have to carefully pick your 10 yr olds friends because they may be a gang member, or a drug dealer or a drug addict or a prostitute or just an unruly child who will drag your child into the kind of lifestyle that you don’t condone
The people blame the government, the government blames the people, the people blame the police, the police blame the parents, the parents blame the mayor and so on and so on……………..
Who is to blame for violence raging all over this country, children being caught in the crossfire, young dope addicts and murders being committed on the daily?
How can this end? Is there really anything that can be done?
