What are you waiting for?

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.. To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December," Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." My dad stood his wa tch in the jungles of 'Nam', And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue... an American flag. I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home. I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.. Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall." " So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son." Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us." PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. LCDR Jeff Giles, SC, USN 30th Naval Construction Regiment OIC, Logistics Cell One Al Taqqadum,
No matter if you were for against Barack Obama I urge everyone to read this with an open mind before you discard the statements and opinions that I will be making here. The one thing that really upsets me is narrow minded people and people that are prejudice and racist. I t is time for all Americans to unite and bring our country back to the United States of America like it should be. United means we all come together and fight for our country, fight for our freedom, fight for our respect and most important fight for our unity. Everyone is looking at President Elect Barack Obama as the first African American president. To some people that’s all they can see. They cant see the fact that he was brought up in a low to medium income family and pursued the interest that he had inside to get to where he is today. I doesn’t matter what color a mans skin is or where he is from or whatever his religion is. What matters is he will be our leader and commander in chief for the next four years. He can not lead us out of debt, racism, equality, recession, war, environment problems and the list goes on without the support of the American people. One man cannot do everything that is ask of him it takes all the American people to rally with him and give him our support to lead our nation. Yes my friends he will lead us and direct us to the point where we need to be. You can believe he is going to face a lot of problems and situations as President of The United States. However with the support of the American people he will make changes that will affect million of people. Our country needs to get back to the place where we recognize the number one commodity of our country. That my dear friends are the American People. We need a strong and respected military. We need an affordable health care for all Americans. We need to quit spending what we don’t have and eliminate the national debt. We need to get rid of the spending that so many senators and house of representatives think is needed. Spend what we need on what we need and for once and all balance the budget to insure future generations can live in a country that has pride and respect. We need jobs here in America and quit letting them go overseas. We need environmental projects that will work instead of speeches of what we think will work. We need to stop the rich from getting richer and the poor becoming poorer. We need America to be America for all the people. I am sure there are things coming up that I won’t like and I won’t agree with. However the good of all the people is what matters. The good of future generations to be debt free should be our number one goal. Like I said before President Elect Barrack Obama cannot do everything himself. He is not God. He will be our President and our leader and I am sure he will lead our country and its people towards a positive turn. In the past few days I have been receiving several emails and text messages that are degrading and racial. I immediately delete them and refuse to pass along that kind of garbage. Everyone is ready to judge a man because of the color of his skin and not for the abilities that he has to be a strong leader. That my dear friend is am embarrassment to me and to all American people. Whether you like him or not resident Elect Barack Obama will be our next President of the United States We all need to support him and see where he leads our country. If he leads in the wrong direction then in four years we can vote him out of office. But for now we need to give him a chance to lead us in a positive way. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or Republican, Black or White or any other nationality. The only true nationality should be WE ARE AMERICANS. I finish by saying, remember THE PEOPLE voted him in office and God Bless the President of the United Sates and God Bless America .

PLEASE READ TO THE VERY END, IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

Photobucket Image Hosting You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I. I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK..I am ready to go..' I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand hi s words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night. I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said. 'Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now.' I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven He heard my voice and answered. I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken.. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them. I was in Texas, Virginia, California, Michigan, Afghanistan. I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news .. Did you sense Me? I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor. Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; 'Come to Me.. this way... take my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there. I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me? Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found Then, at any moment, you know you are 'ready to go.' I will be in the stairwell of your final moments. God During the next 60 seconds, stop whatever you are doing, and take this opportunity. (Literally it is only 1 minute.) All you have to do is the following: Stop and think and appreciate God's power in your life, for doing what you know is pleasing to Him. If you are not ashamed to do this, follow the instructions. Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of Me, I will be ashamed of you before My Father' If you are not ashamed, copy and send this message...only if you believe 'Yes, I love my God. He is my fountain of Life and My Savior. He Keeps me going day and night. Without Him, I am no one But with Him, I can do everything. Christ is my strength.' Prayer chain for our Military...please don't break it THIS NEEDS TO GO AROUND THE USA MANY TIMES SO KEEP IT GOING

I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS GOING ON. CONSIDER ME "OUT" AS FAR AS THEY GO. I DON'T NEED THEIR COFFEE THAT BAD! SHAME ON THEM. Guess I won't be drinking Starbucks anymore! ! ! Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee. So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street -to-street and house-to-house. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more. Semper Fidelis. Sgt. Howard C. Wright 1st Force Recon Co 1st Plt PLT PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS . . ALLOW IT TO BE PASSED TO ALL IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT! ! ! Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit the fire fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers and Starbucks charged them! ! ! JUST A NOTE TO THIS; STARBUCKS HAD STORES ON SEVERAL MILITARY BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS. GO GET 'EM AMERICA. STAND-UP FOR OURSELVES! Have A Great Day...Dom & Judy

Soldiers Christmas

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I 'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE"; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS" THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed
Having this information is power at the voting booth! 33 Senators Voted Against English as America 's Official Language June 6, 2007 On Wed, 6 Jun 2007 23:35:23 -0500, 'Colonel Harry Riley USA Ret'd. wrote: Senators: Your vote against an amendment to the Immigration Bill 1348, to make English America's offical language is astounding. On D-Day no less when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock character and principles of America . I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens. I don't much care where you come from, what your religion is, whether you're black, white or some other color, male or female, democrat, republican or independent, but I do care when you're a United States Senator, representing citizens of America and vote against English as the official language of the United States Your vote reflects betrayal, political surrender, violates your pledge of allegiance, dishonors historical principle, rejects patriotism, borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator... impeachment, recall, or other appropriate action is warranted. Worse, 4 of you voting against English as America 's official language are presidential candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd, and Senator Obama. Those 4 Senators vying to lead America but won't or don't have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America's official language when 91% of American citizens want English officially designated as our language. This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators have disgraced themselves as political hacks... unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualifed to serve as President of the United States. If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a back-lash so stunning it will literally rock you out of your panties... and preferably, totally out of the United States Senate. The entire immigration bill is a farce... your action only confirms this really isn't about America ; it's about self-serving politics... despicable at best. Together, we're building a movement for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and our voices are being heard. Yesterday, after months of mounting pressure from concerned citizens like you, the President finally addressed the issue of our broken veterans care system. The President stood with former Senator Bob Dole and former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala in the Rose Garden and said, "Our system for managing this care has fallen behind. It's an outdated system that needs to be changed." The President's remarks illustrate the incredible progress we've made. President Bush announced a plan to streamline veterans care and fix the problems that allowed so many wounded warriors to fall through the cracks. But our fight is not over. The next few weeks will be critical as the White House reveals the details of its plan, and presents its suggestions for turning it into law. Watch the video of the President's comments, and read the New York Times article, featuring IAVA. It has been eight months since the Washington Post's reporting on the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed brought veterans issues to the top of the national agenda. In that time, many of you have taken action to turn that initial attention into a fever pitch. You wrote hundreds of letters to the editors of your local newspapers, you added thousands of names to our petition, and most recently, you helped us launch a television ad demanding that Congress and the President take immediate action to get veterans the care they deserve. And yesterday, Senator Dole and Secretary Shalala wrote their own editorial in the Washington Post, urging elected officials to ensure that this momentum is turned into real results. They wrote, "With Veterans Day only a few weeks away, we can think of no better tribute than to give our new veterans a system that truly meets their needs…Nothing's going to happen unless Congress steps up to the plate." Our efforts are forcing lawmakers to do just that. We face many big challenges ahead, and the next few weeks will reveal just how committed the President and Congress are to improving veterans' care. But we have seen exciting developments this week, and we are making significant progress. With your help, we are building a movement of people who refuse to abandon our wounded warriors. And for that, we can't thank you enough. Sincerely, Paul Paul Rieckhoff Iraq Veteran Executive Director Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
