CryptoLocker is a new variant of ransomware that restricts access to infected computers and demands the victim provide a payment to the attackers in order to decrypt and recover their files. As of this time, the primary means of infection appears to be phishing emails containing malicious attachments.

This malware may come disguised as a FEDEX or UPS niotice or  a Amazon order or as another online retailer. Your best bet is to disregard the link and go directly to the site itself and look there. If you have nothing of importance on your drive this will not affect you if you are targetted but if you have docs, pictures or files of importance there is NO REMOVAL procedure. You will have to pay.

CryptoLocker Virus: New Malware Holds Computers For Ransom, Demands $300 Within 100 Hours And Threatens To Encrypt Hard Drive

on October 21 2013 3:23 PM

A new malware spreading around the Internet in recent months holds every file on a computer for ransom. Unless the user pays $300 in bitcoins to the hacker responsible for the infection within 100 hours, the hacker threatens to forever deny the user access to his or her files.

The malware, which is known as CryptoLocker, is not just an empty threat. If the hacker's demands aren’t met, the computer files get cryptographically locked, making it almost impossible to access them. A ticking clock showing the time limit makes CryptoLocker just a bit more terrifying.

Verizon is currently sending out notification letters chock full of legalese to its customers. Here's a summary: You have 45 days to opt out or you "agree" that Verizon can share your personal data. Update: Verizon says this policy is not new. It has been in effect since 2007. Verizon also reiterates what we state below, which is that any personal-data sharing only happens within the Verizon "family" of telecom services, which are technically separate companies, hence the wording. According to author David Weinberger, who made the discovery upon reading his pamphlet, the personal info Verizon wants to distribute willy nilly to anyone with a check includes "services purchased (including specific calls you make and receive), billing info, technical info and location info. They promise to only share this with 'affiliates, agents and parent companies.' It will definitely not be shared with 'unrelated third parties' ... unless, perhaps that third party pays Verizon to become an affiliate, whatever the heck 'affiliate' means." If don't get your statements in the mail, and view them online like I do, you will not receive this letter. Instead, you have to log into your Verizon Wireless account and view your messages. However, Read Write Web reports the link provided there, called the Customer Proprietary Network Information Notice, was listed as "not available." So keep an eye out for the mail, and be sure to opt out. Or, log in and hope Verizon grants you access to your own account so you can cancel the notice that way. http://i.gizmodo.com/5166365/free-advice-watch-the-mail-and-opt-out-of-verizon-sharing-your-personal-data Sign in to the Verizon website. - On the red bar near the top, hover over "My Verizon." Click on "My Profile." (Don't go over to the sub-menu that pops up.) - In the second section down, under Phone Controls, there's a link to "View/Edit Privacy (CPNI) Settings." Click on that. - Voila! Click on the button that says "Don't share my CPNI." Remember to hit the save button before you leave.
I see that hackers are at it again. I just got an email from a newbie on my list who most likely was hacked and now her account is spewing emails with a link intended to fool you into giving your Fubar info. This is the email subject: And what if your spouse see this film? This is the Text of the email: LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1346230617 what the link really says if you click reply" === 'nascarlady' wrote the following at '2009-03-04 17:00:07'.. > > LOL > a href="http://intofindyour.com/go/fu.php?5b1chcdd9=1346230617">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1346230617 Going to the link it takes you to a fake Youtube site and asks to install a Flash update. The file that is offered is infected with Worm:Win32/Koobface.A New worms target both MySpace and Facebook users Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management systems, has detected two variants of a new worm, Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.a. and Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b, which attack MySpace and Facebook respectively. As part of their malicious payload, the worms transform victim machines into zombie computers to form botnets. Even though the worms are currently only infecting MySpace and Facebook users, Kaspersky Lab analysts are warning users that the worms are designed to upload additional malicious modules with other functionality via the Internet. It is highly probable that victim machines will not only be used for spreading links via these social networking sites, but the botnets will also be used for other malicious purposes. Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.a spreads when a user accesses his/her MySpace account. The worm creates a range of commentaries to friends' accounts. Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b, which targets Facebook users, creates spam messages and sends them to the infected users' friends via the Facebook site. The messages and comments include texts such as Paris Hilton Tosses Dwarf On The Street; Examiners Caught Downloading Grades From The Internet; Hello; You must see it!!! LOL. My friend catched you on hidden cam; Is it really celebrity? Funny Moments and many others. Messages and comments on MySpace and Facebook include links to http://youtube.[skip].pl. If the user clicks on this link, s/he is redirected to http://youtube.[skip].ru, a site which purportedly contains a video clip. If the user tries to watch it, a message appears saying that s/he needs the latest version of Flash Player in order to watch the clip. However, instead of the latest version of Flash Player, a file called codecsetup.exe is downloaded to the victim machine; this file is also a network worm. The result is that users who have come to the site via Facebook will have the MySpace worm downloaded to their machines, and vice versa.

I'm not really thrilled with the "Old" new email system but I guess they got tired of hearing people bitching. You had to manually check off each box to delete the individual mails before, but now they have placed a checkbox at the bottom and top of the page that allows you to check all for deletion. Now if only they add email attachments back!!
