Keith Smart is getting the closest thing he has ever had to a long-term deal as an NBA coach. Ray Lewis Game Jersey . The Sacramento Kings extended Smarts contract through the 2013-14 season on Monday. Smarts deal had been set to expire after the upcoming season. "Keiths extension gives us the stability we need to continue the development of our team," Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie said in a statement. "He has the commitment, energy and vision necessary to succeed in building a winning team. We are all looking forward to working with him as we pursue an exciting and productive future." The 47-year-old Smart, hired as an assistant last summer, took over for the fired Paul Westphal in January after a 2-5 start. The Kings went 20-39 the rest of the way under Smart during the lockout-shortened season and then selected Thomas Robinson of Kansas with the fifth overall pick in the NBA draft. The extension provides Smart the job security he has never had. The Golden State Warriors decided not to extend Smarts contract last year after he hastily replaced Don Nelson before training camp and led the franchise to a 36-46 record -- a 10-game improvement from the previous season. Smart also had a stint as the Cleveland Cavaliers interim head coach for the final 40 games in 2003 after taking over for John Lucas. No interim tag this time. Smart, the former Indiana guard best known for hitting "The Shot" against Syracuse to win the 1987 NCAA title, is 65-116 as an NBA head coach. He already has built a strong relationship with Kings players, notably volatile big man DeMarcus Cousins, in his short time in Californias capital city and gained the backing of the Maloof family that owns the team. Smart will be charged with leading a talented young roster that has yet to blend. Sacramento has missed the playoffs six straight years, and the franchises future is still uncertain without a long-term arena solution. "Im excited to continue this process with the Kings," Smart said. "Were trying to get our franchise moving in the right direction. The goal is to keep moving in that positive direction, and Im glad that I get that opportunity. Its been great working with Geoff and his staff and communicating with the Maloofs in this process." Dennis Pitta Purple Jersey . The Bolton midfielder was fighting for his life after his heart stopped beating during last months FA Cup match at Tottenham, but he was able to walk out of hospital earlier this week and return home. "For 78 minutes I was dead and, even if I lived, was expected to have suffered brain damage," Muamba told Sundays edition of The Sun newspaper. Ray Lewis Womens Jersey . Hutchison was placed on the disabled list in June with the injury and was 5-3 with a 4.60 earned-run average in 11 outings. "This is the first of any arm problems that Ive had," he said at the time. http://www.nflproshopravens.com/haloti-ngata-jerseys . Polish qualifier Jerzy Janowicz came up short on his first try, but not before leaving the impression that he could well earn another chance soon. Ramon Harewood Jersey . Hamilton, which began the 2012 campaign with back-to-back defeats against Saskatchewan and British Columbia as it surrendered a combined 82 points, turned the corner after that by posting three consecutive wins in order to jump above . MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Noel Prefontaine cant see himself going out like this. The Toronto Argonauts veteran kicker/punter, a six-time CFL all-star and a Grey Cup champion, will undergo surgery shortly to repair a four-centimetre labrum tear in his left hip. He has an anticipated recovery time of four-to-six months, but Prefontaine said Tuesday there are no guarantees that at age 38 hell be able to resume his career. And if thats the case, Prefontaines last-ever play in the CFL will be watching Hamiltons Chris Williams return a missed Prefontaine field goal 119 yards for a TD in the first half of the Tiger-Cats 36-27 home win over Toronto on Saturday. "I could have very well played my last game in Hamilton," Prefontaine said. "As an Argonaut you dont want to end your career in Hamilton so I think that will give me an extra little push when rehab time comes around. "Obviously, I have one glimmer of hope and its getting it fixed and (well see) what happens after that. Anyone who has ever been through any surgery knows it is not a guarantee. I am not going to feel like a new person when I come out of this thing but the bottom line is the injury is going to be fixed and then I will just take it from there." The five-foot-11, 205-pound Prefontaine, an Argos team captain, said he has played through the ailment the last couple of years -- first suffering the injury while with Edmonton -- but now the condition is dramatically affecting his kicking mechanics. "Every kick I have feels different and as a kicker thats a bad place to be," he said. "Its not going to promote any kind of consistency and I think going through the first three games and evaluating what Ive done I think I can honestly say it has been very inconsistent. "This team cannot afford to have inconsistency at that position and I feel with my injury and how Im feeling right now I cant fulfil my responsibility to help this team win." The left-footed Prefontaine is currently the CFLs scoring leader through three weeks with 37 points. But he has connected on just 10-of-15 field goals and has watched opposing returners take back missed attempts for touchdowns in each of Torontos last two games. "Its not so much pain every time I hit it," he said. "I get burning a burning sensation in my lower back on my left side and my hip flexor region. "This is something that needs to be surgically repaired, its not something thats going to heal on its own." Toronto signed free-agent Swayze Waters to replace Prefontaine, who was placed on the nine-game injured list Monday. Wateers will handle kicking and punting duties Wednesday night when the Argos (1-2) host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3) at Rogers Centre. Justin Tucker Jersey. Prefontaine joined the Argos as an unheralded punter in 1998 out of San Diego State, deemed a non-import despite being born in California because he lived with his grandmother while growing up in Quebec. His thundering boots and penchant for racing downfield to make bone-crunching tackles quickly made him a fan favourite. Prefontaine began kicking field goals in 2002 and has made 332 of 457 career attempts, a 72.6 per cent success ratio. Prefontaine is also among the CFLs top punters with a solid 45.9-yard career average and helped Toronto win the 04 Grey Cup. Prefontaine spent his first 10 CFL seasons in Toronto before being dealt to Edmonton on May 31, 2008 for a 2009 first-round pick and conditional 2010 selection after former NFL star kicker Mike Vanderjagt, a native of Oakville, Ont., rejoined the Argos. The Double Blue re-acquired Prefontaine on Oct. 12, 2010 for defensive lineman Etienne Legare and the negotiation rights to defensive back Damaso Munoz. Prefontaine said an MRI in March revealed the full extent of the injury, and because the project recovery time would mean returning at mid-season, he opted to continue playing through it this year, then have the surgery at seasons end. "Hindsight is 50-50, if I knew I was going to struggle on the field then I think its something I probably wouldve contemplated," he said. "But the bottom line is I felt I had been dealing with it for a while and told the people involved I had been playing on this thing and felt I could continue to do so. "When you kick a field goal youre supposed to be over the ball and be able to drive it so your legswing would normally come down. I cant swing down on it right now so the clips Ive seen of me kicking field goals, my leg is coming up at impact which is the worst thing I could possibly do. But its coming up because Im compensating due to my hip. "I dont have enough strength in there, the tear is bothering me to the point where I cant mechanically be consistent therefore its affecting my overall results." Although he wont be kicking any time soon, Prefontaine says hell certainly remain visible with the Argos. "My role now is going to be the same other than playing," he said. "As a leader and a voted captain on this team and as much as I care for these guys, Im going to be here any way that I can to help them win a Grey Cup. "Whatever our goals are Im going to try to help them achieve them." ' ' '
