How Do You Know
How do you know when you are in love
Is it the way you feel when he kisses you
His lips soft; the kiss urgent yet gentle like a dove
Or the way each day with him is new
And stolen moments with him seem too few
Is it the comfort he conveys in his words
Making you feel shielded and loved
The way they wrap around and protect you like swords
Keeping you warm and fitting like a glove
You can feel the promise of love
Is it the look in your eyes as you adoringly stare
The gentle way you stroke his cheek
The way you brush from his eyes stray hair
Or the way with a glance he makes your legs grow weak
And your voice grow shaky when you try to speak
Is it the way your mind is always on him
How to thoughts him subconsciously you always seem to roam
How he’s never out of your thoughts, making your head swim
The way you daydream of maybe sharing a home
Or writing your feelings in a poem
When My Life Comes to Its End
I’ve loved you so completely
I’ve loved you unconditionally
And when my life comes to its end
I hope you will be there my friend.
I hope you’ll be there at my last breath
And hold my hand at time of death
Please watch my essence on its way
From this life into the fade.
I’ll always be right by your side
Always and forever just like a bride
Even though I’ll just be a memory
I hope in your heart I’ll always be.
Fault
When I tell you that I was distraught
Over things about which we fought
I never meant to assign a fault
It takes two to tango I’ve been taught
I know responsibility you always take
For my tears and resulting heartache
And I’m a martyr as you’ve expressed
Two peas in a pod we are at best
It’s obvious a pair we two make
We’re so much alike for our own sake
I understand you and you understand me
So from fault we cannot flee
For conflict comes from participation
By both parties in syncopation
So this burden we’ll place in a vault
And no one will assign to it fault.
