Loose Lips Sink Ships

I am so tired of dealing with unintelligent, immature non troop supporters its beyond ridiculous! I have a 2 year old that acts more mature than these people and not only is he two, he's into laughing at people farting and calling people poopies. Its to the point where I just do not have the energy, time or the patience to deal with them. They throw around big words as if they have something to prove only it makes them look to me as if they have the intellect of a one year old. Sure, I could simply not respond, which most of the time I don't, but every so often, I feel as if I should speak up. They throw out terms such as a terrorist when talking about soldiers and how they're killing the innocent. My all-time favorite put down is babykiller. Seriously here people where are you getting this information from anyway? The news? Not the news I read. The media depicts certain images because they are feeding into what the American people want. And that is to degrade our government and the current leader. Sure, we don't have to agree with all that our own President does, but how smart is it to say it outright? Not very. Which has lead to many video tapes from Osama Bin Laden, who states that he thinks his tactics are working. We've become a divided nation. Sure, we have individuals with different thoughts, but I think there is a difference in being an individual person who makes up their own thoughts and comes to their own conclusions, but our society is being 'brainwashed' by our media. They don't concentrate on the good of the war. They concentrate on the bad parts. To do this, they must attack the government, attack the mission and attack the soldier. What does that say about our media? There are so many documentaries out there too. People who don't watch the news, watch the documentaries. Seriously here people, who makes up the documentaries? The media. The little peons that never made it to prime time. The little guy that works on a local radio show. Its 'all' the media. It doesn't matter if the two contradict one another, they all draw the same conclusion. War is bad. Although, we never want to be in a war where we're losing so many of our soldiers on a daily basis. There 'are' parts about the mission that are in fact working. It takes time. How much time? That isn't up to us. That is up to Iraq, their leaders and the insurgents. We are only there to help. To help with a government that is struggling to survive. It is new to them. And as the old saying goes: "Rome wasn't built in a day" and neither will a stabalized democratic government in Iraq. To those that say this war is about oil, give me a break! It is not. If we were in Kuwait, possibly, but Iraq, no. We have our own oil and we're not there to take it away from the Iraqi people. I am sure there are some hidden agendas, but now is not the time to guess what they are. Now is the time to be a united front and not let the insurgents think they've won. Not divide our country and weaken its state, to allow more attacks on U.S soil again. Freedom of Speech aka Freedom of Expression: It comes to me all the time. People make statements to me that are personal attacks to the safety of my soldier and in no way is this constitutionally OK to do. One, freedom of speech protects just that, freedom of speech. It allows a U.S citizen to speak freely without the fear of being punished. Freedom of expression is important to a democratic government. However, even in the United States it does not give someone the right to post comments that is hazardous to another persons safety. I come to you with OPSEC. Spilling out more information on the internet about a soldiers unit, place of location, their missions, even their names is a violation of OPSEC. You have to remember that the internet is a place for everyone. And if its posted online as such, then the insurgents can find it. We don't give deployment dates, return dates and even R & R dates. I will give you an example of what I mean. This happens too on a daily basis and at this point, I just can't deal with it anymore. I was recently in a facebook group made for people who are in a relationship with a soldier. And one of the ladies put up when her boyfriend would be back in the states. She hadn't put any of his information in that post such as his name, rank, unit and location. Therefore, it shouldn't have been in violation of OPSEC. Well, I went to earlier posts where she had mentioned his name. Even further back to where she mentioned where he was overseas. Even further back, I got his unit. If I can find out all this information in an open forum, imagine what the insurgents found. So, I say this once again. Any information about your loved one is too much information. Lets remember the phrase, 'loose lips, sink ships'. ♥Zaphara
