noticed that my block list had been cleared. thought I'd done so myself and not remembered, went and checked up on some people who had me blocked, and noticed that one didn't have me blocked anymore; assumed she'd unblocked me, and thanked her. then noticed two more no longer did- 3 is a pattern. Friends may want to rebuild their lists (and no, I have no intention of abusing this, now that I realize what it is- etc.  Stash ratings has always been another matter ;) )

because the "incentive structure" of this site encourages helping people, because helping people helps you, maybe it is "FUBar-specific" enough to belong here anyway. (again, the preface is longer than the main body.)

You're not guaranteed to get the help you want from people if you go out there and help them, too. You are pretty much guaranteed not to, if you don't.

(This is directed at no one and everyone, very definitely including me.)

go to settings and change to the new profile style (not the new viewing style- not "fsb"- the new profile style, which is in a different place on the settings page), then people can like you when they visit your page. (and if they aren't important to you, they aren't- this is not a poll, this is a tip on how, since I see complaints from time to time. I changed to the new profile style because it looks neat. and I enjoy having more likes, I admit, but I'll at least pretend that wasn't the primary reason ;) Still, it does allow me to 'like' everyone who _comments_ on  my page too, at least for so long as I can see their comments.  Some of the changes take some getting used to.)

Off to work and pre-work preparation and such now, but...

photos in NSFW folders now seem to be visible to non-friends. Even if this is a bug, be sure to make them friends or family-locked too if that is your intention.

if you tried to rate a photo and got one of those bouncer screensover and over and over and over again, I think you may have run into a bug of the site.

If you leave the repeating error and visit a profile instead, you should, I think, get the bouncer one more time and then hopefully not for awhile.

If you want to 'like' more of your friends and less random people, go to fubar.com/profile.php and choose the 'fsb' style page rather than the page you're currently using. it'll take some real getting used to, but when people show up in your feed, you can 'like' them right then and there.

I've come to the conclusion I just can't seem to rate blogs I haven't rated before on this using this browser (the "basic" Mac one. Will rate them from time to time but only after switching to other browsers, Firefox etc., which I do more rarely lately.)

Update: things work rather poorly with fubar and Safari , not great with fubar and Firefox, but rather well with fubar and Google Chrome, on my computer, so I've been using Chrome as my primary browser for some time now... (Nov 2010)

and no.1: making one's profile private - readable by friends only - and still having the name say, -months- after this change, "do not friend request without reading the profile!"

I can't think of anyone offhand who's done that exactly- offhand- but it seems to sum some other slipped-gear practices up nicely.

couldn't a person wait to be "done with this place" until the 12 hour period in which they're someone else's (not mine!! I don't even have this ability) point recipient is over? Rather makes that other person feel like they're giving their points away for nothing- if only because they are giving their points away for nothing. Ah well. I don't know either of the two people involved, it just seems rather a case of ingratitude...

This call for solidarity with people who may have been locked out for blasted good reason (who knows? You're not telling us their story or anyone else's!) is giving me a headache. And I'm prone to headaches anyway.

I usually like solidarity and favor it. But somehow I don't see this bringing the site crashing to a halt (taking on similar numbers, or dropping your own name and taking on your number, in solidarity with Miss Pink, or whatever - it's all a very confused, disorganized effort- which doesn't help either) - as making it all more confusing for newcomers, and all, all very self-absorbed. Labor organizers of an earlier day would have called it all very bourgeouis, I think, and I can see why ;) I just think it's foolish. 

We also work enough during the week without wanting to put in extra work figuring out who's who, just to support some people we do not know in the name of a principle (solidarity) which only some of us support anymore, and without even taking the time to put forward good arguments for it, apparently.  Rather a waste of your time and mine, and I hope only successful as a fad (like so many fads on this site.) Once again I'll try to see if I can be woken up when it's over, so to speak.
