What are you waiting for?

Internet dating... what can you say about such a wonderfully convenient, yet frustratingly tedious, invention? Hmmmmm... I think I just summed it up right there! However, I'm in the mood to be expressive and creative... these moods come (cum?!) in spurts... kinda like the dating process itself. So, here goes nothing... I started this adventure a couple of years ago, and experienced a couple of early successes. The first one involved a woman who was apparently trying to fulfill a Greg Allman (Allman Bros. Band... ex-husband of Cher) fantasy (even though I don't think I look much like the dude!). We agreed to meet at a particular bar, and it was lust at first sight! After a couple of hours of small talk, she invited me to her place. We spent several hours together, in the midst of which she blurted out something like "where do you get so much stamina?"... talk about stroking the ol' ego! During the next couple of weeks, we kept in touch, but never got around to a second date. Oh, well... "Greg Allman" turned out to be a one-night stand performance... typical musician! Several months later, I started my first "long-distance relationship". It was with a single mom in her mid-thirties, living in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. She was a petite red-head... very attractive... not just physically, but also in the way she seemed to connect with me during our IM chats. After a couple of months, we agreed that I would travel to Tulsa for a visit around the Xmas/New Year holidays. We had a wonderful week together, and really got to know each other in every way possible. However... reality set in shortly after I returned to Phoenix. The tension started to rise as we both began to consider what a long shot this whole relationship was. In a last-ditch effort to keep hope alive, I reminded her that I was seriously considering moving to the Austin, Texas area (we had discussed this before), and we started looking for homes online together. Somewhere along the way, communication went horribly wrong... she started doubting my seriousness concerning home-buying, got frustated, and signed off with a big "F-UUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!" I heard from her again after a couple of weeks, but her tone had changed, and it was clear that I had been relegated to "friends only" status. It remains that way to this day. Since then, my experiences have been a series of "near-misses'... so-to-speak. They include a couple of "crazies', including one that, after not hearing from her for several weeks, suddenly decided to spy on me and sent a desperate-sounding message to someone I was going to meet for a first date, scaring her off. I quickly blocked Crazy Lady #1, but the damage was done. C-Lady #2, after one date that never got past the bar we met in, decided that we were in a "relationship" (without letting me know), and got very upset when she noticed I was communicating with other women. She sent some very nasty comments and messages my way, and then went to join C-Lady #1 in the "Blocked" file! There have been some others since then, including a couple in a row that bailed before the first date, at the last minute... very frustrating... and yet I'm still hanging in there. I have a stubborn streak... that was dutifully pointed out to me by my long-distance Tulsa Girl. She said it was typical of Aries (she should know... she's one, too!). We shall see if stubborness... relentless pursuit... implacability... etc... gets me anywhere in the long run, because the long run is what I'm looking forward to! Later, y'all!!
