CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, who was selected in the first round by the Bengals, is expected to miss up to six weeks after fracturing a bone in his knee during a workout earlier this month. Andre Johnson Authentic Jersey . The Bengals had no comment on the injury Wednesday, but may on Thursday, after the team reports to training camp and conducts physicals. Kirkpatrick, who was the 17th overall selection in the draft, will be put on either the Active-Physically Unable to Perform or Active-Non-Football Injury list. Both designates players who are unable to practice as camp begins due to injury but may be activated as soon as they are medically cleared. With Leon Hall coming back from an Achilles problem, there were already questions about the position, which has been hit by injuries the last two seasons. That continued this spring as Kirkpatrick, Adam "Pacman" Jones, Shaun Prater and Nate Clements all missed workouts. Clements was out for all of the workouts due to an abdominal strain. Defensive co-ordinator Mike Zimmer, though, is keeping hope alive. "I feel good about that group. I like the athletic ability," Zimmer said during Tuesdays pre-training camp luncheon. "I like the combination of the ages. And the versatility, too, of a lot of them. I think we can find a good nucleus of guys. And we have some depth, so hopefully we can get them playing good. Weve got smart guys. Weve got good athletes. "And weve got good guys." Zimmer is hopeful that Hall can be on the field for the first practice on Friday, but Hall has not yet been cleared to return to the field. Brandon Ghee, Terence Newman and Jason Allen are the other cornerbacks on the roster. NOTES: One day after Zimmer said he had discussed a contract extension with the team, but said he was "not at liberty" to say whether he had one, the team announced that one had been reached. Zimmer, who his entering his fifth season here, was going into the last of a three-year extension he signed after the 2009 season. With offensive co-ordinator Jay Gruden having signed in January, that means both co-ordinators are locked up through 2014. ... The Bengals also announced the signing of third-round pick Brandon Thompson, meaning all 10 members of their draft class are under contract. The defensive tackle, who was selected in the third round, started 37 games at Clemson over his final three seasons. He had 208 tackles and 22.5 tackles for loss. Andre Johnson Limited Jersey . Antrel Rolle intercepted two passes by Alex Smith, Prince Amukamara picked off another and the Giants shut down San Francisco in a 26-3 victory over the 49ers on Sunday in a rematch of last seasons NFC championship game. Andre Johnson C Patch Jersey . The Wildcats beat one of the newcomers in their conference. Only a few minutes after No. 1 Alabama lost, Klein threw a 62-yard pass to set up the first of his two touchdown runs and the Wildcats went on to a 23-10 victory Saturday night at TCU. http://www.teamshophoustontexans.com/j-j-watt-jersey . The rest of the day, he was all business. The 29-year-old South African shot his second straight 6-under 66 to reach 17 under and take a two-shot lead over Hunter Mahan after the third round of the Houston Open. Garrett Graham Jersey . -- Bruce Chen weaved his way into and out of trouble over the first four innings against Arizona. Brian Cushing Black Jersey . Frost and Langer each shot 6-under 66 to finish at 8-under 208 on TPC San Antonios Canyons Course. "I wasnt planning on this," Frost said. "Only when I hit it close on 13 (to set up birdie) did I think that it was just Bernhard and I (with a chance to win).OAKLAND, Calif. -- With a lineup full of big bats, the Texas Rangers arent used to being in a prolonged slump at the plate. Yu Darvish struggled with his control and the Rangers were shut down once again by an Oakland starter in a 7-1 setback on Thursday that was their seventh loss in nine games. Texas has been held to two runs or fewer five times in seven games in June, including in all three losses to the As. The Rangers had been held to two or fewer runs just eight times in the first two months of the season. "Over the last three years this is out of the ordinary," said slugger Josh Hamilton, who is 4 for 29 on the road trip. "What has made us so good is that if two or three guys were not getting it done, then two or three others would be getting it done. Right now no one is getting it done." Coco Crisp hit a solo homer and bases-loaded triple to help Brandon McCarthy (5-3) win his fifth straight decision as the As took three of four from the two-time defending AL champions after losing 10 of their previous 11 games. "To be able to take three out of four, with the struggles that weve seen here recently is a big lift," manager Bob Melvin said. "Offensively we did some good things this series, certainly pitching and our defence has been really good too. We played all facets this series. You have to play that way to beat a team like that three out of four and we did." Oakland had lost five straight series and gone winless in nine since taking two of three from Tampa Bay from May 4-6. But with strong starts from Jarrod Parker, Bartolo Colon and McCarthy and a bit more offence than usual, the As were able to handle the struggling Rangers. Brandon Moss also homered for Oakland, which outscored first-place Texas 24-8 in the four games. The As have scored 33 runs in the past six games after having just 32 in the previous 16. Darvish (7-4) gave up six runs, six hits and six walks in 5 1-3 innings, failing in his bid to become the first eight-game winner in the American League. The normally powerful Rangers offence also was held down once again. The As lost outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in the first inning to a strained left hamstring going from first to third on SSeth Smiths RBI single. Bradie James Jersey. Cespedes, who came off the disabled list last week from a hand injury, was replaced by Collin Cowgill. Cespedes is day to day and Melvin hopes he will be available to pinch-hit this weekend in Arizona. Crisp, who had two doubles and six RBIs in 114 at-bats coming into the game, ended a 40-game homerless drought when he took Darvish deep to make it 2-0 in the third. "I didnt know he was slumping," Darvish said through an interpreter. "But looking at today all I can say is hes an incredibly good hitter. He looked like our Hamilton out there today." After Adrian Beltre got Texas on the board with an RBI single in the fourth, the As took advantage of Darvishs wildness to break the game open with four runs in the bottom half. Oakland loaded the bases without a hit on one-out walks to Brandon Inge and Moss and a hit batsman for Kurt Suzuki. Cliff Pennington hit a sacrifice fly and Crisp delivered a triple to right field after Jemile Weeks walked to load the bases as the As went up 6-1. "The walks hurt him," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "When you put so many guys on base something bad is going to happen and it did. Hes a tremendous pitcher and even tremendous pitchers have days like this." That was more than enough support for McCarthy, who retired his final 11 batters in his second start since returning from the disabled list last week from a strained right shoulder. McCarthy allowed one run and three hits in seven innings. NOTES: RHP Tanner Scheppers made his major league debut for the Rangers after being called up to replace LHP Derek Holland, who was placed on the DL because of a fatigued left shoulder. Scheppers allowed one run in 1 2-3 innings. ... The Rangers stay in the Bay Area where they will return to San Francisco to play the Giants for the first time since losing the 2010 World Series. They lost both road games that series and are 0-11 all time in San Francisco. ... Melvin will manage his first game in Arizona since being fired by the Diamondbacks in 2009 when Oakland opens a three-game series there on Friday night. Oaklands Tommy Milone (6-5) is slated to face Daniel Hudson (2-1). ' ' '
