His hand wrote home in one single stroke,
Piece after piece it just came together.
Wars around him stood on the grounds,
But the memory of family became real.
Some use to think he'd never return,
But pictures in his pocket would lead.
Times where friends were scattered,
Face down in the muds of time.
His hand wrote home in one single stroke,
The breath of his voice seemed rushed.
He knew he was shot a couple times,
But he knew one day he'd be loved again.
Some people use to think he's not strong,
But his heart was stronger than anything.
Picture sweet memories some may fade,
A kiss on his wedding day will be forever.
His hand wrote home in one single stroke,
The silences of where he is now remains.
He will carry his friends to their homes,
But will he be alone? Absolutely not.
He laid coffins down where others said leave him,
He knelt down in prayer for his own safety.
His thoughts swirling as a helicopter takes him up,
His hand wrote home in one single stroke.
And home is where he remains.
