have you ever noticed when
a fight or feud begins
temperature goes down and then
you know that nobody wins
the silence is pressing down
affecting each and everyone
each person wearing a frown
until the fighter has gone
just one is needed for this deed
just one that starts this boil
planting his festering seed
in the heart of this family's soil
no eye contact or touch is given
this tumor nobody dares lance
brooding and silently driven
to leave quickly when there's a chance
alone he sits, this king of ours
at least that is what he thinks
a king of toilets is his powers
staring eyes, he doesn't blink
his right he thinks is fatherhood
his right to cuss and scream
aiming towards the kids he could
maim their spirits, their dream
can he not see what he is doing
see that they are grown
to talk like he does, this brooding
THAT is what they are shown
a normal word, a punctuation
is all they need to see
no need for any indentation
in their souls, then watch them flee
the hurt they feel is past the reason
the whole idea of this fight
corrections yes, not treason
this need to hurt is not his right
each tear they drop from eyes so sad
burns right down into my heart
it makes me feel helpless and so mad
eager and aching for his depart
all I can do for my children then
is be there, heart and arms open
let them cry and tightly hold them
feeling their despair, feeling broken
whisper soft into their mind
shhh darlings all will be right
knowing his harsh words still grind
walls pulled up, ready for next fight
just holding them and counting days
until we are alone at last
just me and the children and our little ways
without the shadow he casts
