I have a close relationship with my sister even though we're far apart; she's based in Europe whereas I am here in KL, Malaysia. We keep in touch via emails and the occassional text messages/phone calls.
This year, she'll be back in time to celebrate Diwali with the rest of us family and I am so excited to see her again!
I had this marvellous idea or two to bounce off her to make Diwali big and had emailed her. Her response made me laugh, and considerably brightened up my day :-)
Am posting the email exchange between us (some lines have been edited here).
I want to remember this day! :-)

Subject: Vodka and Saree when you come back home
Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2007
Hi sweets,
Two marvellous ideas hit me on how we can make Diwali big this (or at least, one!)
1. Vodka
This is more like a personal request - can you get me a bottle of Vodka when you come back? ... Please, no Absolut or Smirnoff label - the whole idea is for me (and us!) to get acquainted with the rest of the vodka labels (and taste) that is out there in the market!... There is even a locally made vodka (VASPAROV BLACK LABEL - smooth taste and smells like heaven) that i had just recently tried!!! *LOL* i'd like for us to spend an afternoon getting high whilst ... From Poland, Russia, France, somewhere out there from East Europe or even America, i don't care! Buy a label we've never tried before - be adventurous! ...
Yes, i had been reading abit about the various vodkas out there that is not available here in Malaysia! I really do envy the choices that are available in [there]!
2. Saree
I am planning to get Mum to teach me how to dress up in a Saree for this Diwali. I've never worn it before, and i think at 30, it's high time i learnt something new! How about you? I want to ask Mum if ..., seeing as how this is the first time in ages you will be here to celebrate Diwali with us! I think it will be fun! Say you'll dress up with me ... These are just ideas to bounce off you to make Diwali fun this year. What say you?

I am quite glad that sis and I agreed whole-heartedly to shock the parents (they are noew quite immune to our antics, having seen us at our worst during our childhood years! *grins*) but her response to our dressing up in a saree cracked me up. I do believe she is NOT enthusiastic about that idea at all! *ROFL*
Ah, well, we'll see what happens on Nov 8th!
