Okay...so here's the deal:
~I have seen all these people cry about the mumms, saying things such as "You need to blog this";"We dont wanna discuss politics/religion/anything deeply debatable in the mumms...";etc...
~Well, this is a test. Let's see if I can get some intellectual conversation from a blog.
~For lack of anything else on my mind at this present moment, I'll open this for discussion. Here's my first question:
*** DO WE REALLY NEED TO HAVE HOLIDAYS, SPECIFIC MONTHS, ETC... HONORING THE BLACK CULTURE??? ***
my position:
I feel that in these days of tolerance, equality, equal opportunities, and such, these events (MLK Jr. day, Black History Month, etc..) only perpetuate the thought that there is some sort of difference that remains in our society between "African-Americans" (most of which couldnt name the country of origin that their ancestral roots began from) and Caucasian-Americans.
Isnt this counter-productive? Doesnt this undermine the very equality and "sameness" that the respected Dr. King preached about?
my proposal:
Why dont we either do away with these racist observances, or create additional holidays to honor other cultures, as well? Maybe pick one month ,out of the twelve, to call attention to Asians, and Hispanics, and Irish, or perhaps MY original heritage, the Scandinavians?? Let's have Viking Observance Day, or Norwegian History Month?? Can I get a paid holiday for Thor's birthday??
~ Please, I know that there are those among you that appreciate great debate. Leave an intelligent, articulate comment stating your view on this.
~ I would guess that this will end up in failure, but would like to be proven incorrect!!
~ If this proves worthwhile, I will post more random subjects, and open them for conversation.
