Morning & Welcome to my
Thursday edition of:
My daily Comments
By yours Truly!
I hope this finds you
In full Holiday Spirit
and
Keeping your feet warm!
I say that because,
It always seems
-since I can remember-
That soon as winter hit ...
My toes would get cold
And stay that way until the spring thaw!
My daughter is with me today
(school cancellation due to weather)
and bugging me to go shopping - ugh
I told her I would for sure this weekend.
She's a pretty good Christmas shopper,
I've taken her out to shop for everyone
in her family since she was five.
(yes 5)
I instilled the true meaning of Christmas,
Not that its about getting things -
But GIVING & the joy of that alone.
We have a strange family dynamic,
with my Lexy having 2 half brothers with her mom
in which each brother has a different father -
and having 2 half-sibling
(Trisha & William) with me.
So she has shopped with me for everyone
included in that extended family:
Her old bother & his family
(dad/grandparents)
Her younger bother & his family (dad/grandparents)
which also used to be her step-father/grandparents.
I always fronted the bill,
going to the dollars store
for a lot of it (yikes)
Well, this last year I told her:
"I'll give you 'x' amount of money for Christmas,
And what you don't spend on getting gifts --
the rest will be for your gift(s)"!
I took her out last year
(and she SOOO graduated from the dollar store) ...
And she had a list of all the people
(wanting to add more)
To buy for - dragging me
with her gift money at stake
with each present she wanted to give.
I figured I'd remind her when she chose the
more costly gifts - that - It meant less money for her gift!
(Thinking what kid wouldn't want
to make sure there was enough for whatever
was the rage of that season for themselves-right?)
Well, she really wanted this or that for them,
she buy it fully knowing it came right out of her own gift money ...
Well, she literally didn't care that she spent 80%
of her gift money to GIVE to others,
I watched her proudly when she answered
the lady at the check-out counter asked:
"Would you like to give a dollar for this or that"
As she agreed without blinking ...
I don't know -if- she knew I'd end up still buying her the
'One big thing' she really wanted,
even after she over spent and didn't
have enough in her fund or not
(which of course I did)
But I knew I had a good -caring- and giving girl,
I thought that for -once- as a Dad I might of gave
one value that 'One big thing' to my little girl ...
That being the true meaning of the holiday!
I hope this finds you well, my friends ...
I think I -WANT- to take someone shopping now-
