I wish I knew what it was with the sudden influx of blind friend requests.
I know that CT isn't to me what it is to many of you - I use it to talk to the few people who talk back, find out how others are doing... and figure I'll occasionally meet someone. Too many people see it as an online popularity contest, primarily scheming to earn as many points as they can, as quickly as they can.
I joined last June. I'm only level 11. I didn't get my points by comment-bombing, spamming, adding random people as friends, putting up compromising photos of models... I just let it come naturally. Besides, what are these points supposed to do for me? Will I get something tangible? No, not really.
Points, to me, are a side-effect of being here and being active.
Friends, to me, are people I know I can talk to if my day is going well, or if my day sucks.
When you send me a blind friend request - no "hi", no optional message, nothing that says you're interested in speaking to me - I believe you think I'm going to add you just for points. If you believe so, too, then you're several levels beyond wrong.
While we're on the subject: if you're going to add people, would it pain you to fill out enough of your profile so I don't think you're some random person? If your "About Me" has less information than "about:blank", then you'll likely fall victim to the "DENY" button. I used to message the person back and ask him or her something about himself so I knew whether or not there'd be some reason to add... I've now stopped that practice.
