PulseOnFire's blog: "Army"

created on 06/29/2008  |  http://fubar.com/army/b227334
Ok...now that i've talked about Basic Training, let's talk about my MOS. I am a 92 GOLF which is food service specialist. After BCT, I drove with my parents up to Fort Lee, VA. When we got there, I had to say my goodbyes and leave my parents again. I had to dump all my clothes out for a shakedown to see if I had any contraband on me. Luckily, they didn't find my cigarettes so that night I smoked about 4. The next day we did our in processing which took about 4 days. When our classes for cooking started, I was soooo excited. I was the AI in our group, which is called the Assistant Instructor. I helped the instructor with Demos for the class. Our first week was cooking, which was made 3 kinds of gravy, meatloaf, salisbury steak, corn o'brien (ask for recipe i'll give it to ya), scrambled eggs, fried eggs, Beef Stew, and pancakes. Everything I made was all homemade. No boxes included. Next week was pastries, which we made muffins, biscuits, cookies (chocolate chip and pb), brownies, cherry pies, yellow cake, cinnimon rolls, and hot rolls (dinner rolls). We got to cook out on the field which was fun. We got to use a MKT, or Mobile Kitchen Trailer, and a CK, or Containerized Kitchen. All of the meals were really good. I love my job and love being in the Army. HOOAH!!!!

Basic Training

Well, I want to share my experience to everyone about my basic training. When I got off the bus to Fort Jackson, SC which was about midnight east coast time, the DS, or drill sergeants told us to get into a line. Then they took us into a room to get us in processed. We didn't even get to sleep that night. In processing took about seven days. When we got to our company, which I was a Delta Dog, we seperated into Platoons. My Platoon was called Mad Dogs. Every Day except Sunday we did PT, or physical training. It was hard work since I was out of shape, but by the end of basic I was in top shape. We did an obstacle called Victory Tower, where we repelled off of a 60 foot wall. I love it. We got our M16A2, or in world terms rifles, and we had to carry them everywhere we went. If it was raining hard outside, we did rifle pt, which will get you into even better shape. We qualified with our M16A2 and I shot a 29 out of 40, which is Sharpshooter. We threw real grenades. We had field training which is when we go out in the woods and practice what we would do in Combat situations. We had a day, 3 days, and then Victory Forge which was our final test. At Victory Forge, our company caught up on sleep big time. Whenever we didn't have something to do we slept. We had Family Day, where families of the soldiers come to see their kids before graduation. My mom and dad and sister and brother in law and neice came to see me. When I saw my Mom, I just broke down and gave her the BIGGEST hug that I gave her in a long time. I was SO happy to see them. When it was the day of graduation, I woke up around 3a.m. and took a shower and got into my Class A Uniform which is if you look in my Army Album you will see the uniform. I am glad I did join the Army because it made me a better person. I am more disciplined and focused on my life.
