What are you waiting for?
We have been in the same surroundings for so long that we have taken them for granted. Our own home we have taken for granted.
Because ours eyes have been closed.
Everyday we get up in the morning, drive to work in a daze wondering what the day will bring. We pass by buildings, parks, and stores never thinking that tomorrow they might be gone.
Our eyes are closed.
What about the people at work, think about how many of them do we pass in the halls and not notice or even say hello.
Our eyes are closed.
We are all guilty of this. We've been in the same surroundings for so long that we have taken them for granted. It is our home home that we have taken for granted.
Our eyes are closed.
And we all have watched the destruction people have caused but it has been far enough away not to worry.
Our eyes are closed.
Why? Because we have given ourselves the illusion that it will always be there, that it will never happen to us. But yesterday it did happen to us. It was our home that was violated!
NOW our eyes are open.
The buildings that we are so used to driving by are no longer.
Our eyes are open.
The people that we've walked past and never knew might not be there.
Our eyes are open.
Now we wake in the morning wondering not what the day will bring but if we'll be able to come home.
Our eyes are open.
And as for me, and my home, that skyline that I have looked at for 20 years is changed forever. There is a permenant mark of emptiness where 2 towers once stood.
MY eyes are open.
And those that I cared for will always be remembered by looking into the emptieness.
My eyes are open.
This will remind me everyday not to take anything for granted, to keep my eyes open.
To be aware of my surroundings and enjoy what I have.
This is our home and they have taken our security and safety from us.
But let us be strong and show that we can open our eyes and be safe again.
We can do this by remembering, not forgeting what happened and not taken for granted our surroundings.
