I'm having an ongoing problem with my windshield wipers skipping and making a nasty sound. This doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time. I have replaced wipers. Speed of the wipers does not seem to affect the issue, nor does amt of rain. Often it starts when the wipers start, but not always. It can start at any time.

Looking for suggestions on the cause and the cure.
