What are you waiting for?

I just finished a conversation with my closest friend. I told her she needs to start a blog as she is much more eloquent an empassioned than I am. I will start off so that she may add to my blogs, or may well be the writer of them.

This Country, The United States of America, is in fact losing it's grip on reality, or at least her people are. We have lost sight of what is real and good in this land. We have attached ourselves to the dollar and a dream turning into a nightmare for more and more people.

It used to be we would help each other because we could and wanted to. For example. My grandmother, who raised two kids without a husband was so poor she could barely keep food on the table 2 times a day and a roof over their heads. Everything they owned was second or third hand from the church, friends, and neighbors. Several times a year there was a knock at the back door. Some poor soul with even less than they had would ask for any food they could spare. My grandmother would take from her plate and offer this stranger a little food and water. She never turned anyone away, and gladly shared with someone who was less fortunate than she was.

Today, we avoid people less fortunate than we are. We fear them, we treat them as if they have a plague. We shun them. Right this very second, in the greatest Country in the world, we allow children to go to bed hungry,,assuming they even have a bed. We allow the sick and infirm to remain untreated. We do this, we all do this. Why is this happening, why, in this wonderful Country of ours do we allow anyone to remain sick, hungry, or go without shelter.

You may say that there are too many of them, I agree. More than zero is too many.

You may say that you are only one person and can't make a difference, I agree. One person will not make a difference, but all of us together can.

We are 200 million people in this Country. That is a lot of people. So, I ask again...Why are there people in our Country suffering. This has nothing to do with politics, though some of you are thinking I am a tree hugging liberal that doesn't know the logistics involved. I just want the problem fixed no matter who it hurts. Sorry to burst your bubble, Iam and always have been a conservative. To tell you the truth, I am not happy with anyone in the government at this time, it's not about which side of the fence you are on when both sides in Washington really suck.

I have always cared about my fellow man. I have many times helped those that needed or asked for help. I know their plight better than most of you. I was once one of "them" I was lucky though, I hade friends that helped me when they found out what happened to me and where I was. I was given a chance few others in my circumstances then are given now.

I don't want to dwell on the past either. What has gone before is in fact over and done with. We all need to see where we are in the present and all of us need to work for a better future for each and every person in this Country. And when we finish here, we can show the world how truely great we are and start leading by example again.

A society is measured on how it treats the least of it's members, in this we are proving to be a poor society.

Please forgive any spelling errors as the spell checker is not working, and I have not slept for quite a while. There will be more, this is just an introduction and an invitation for comment. I know the haters will have a field day. Their opinion means little. I am looking for constructive comments from intelligent people with opinions both for and against the subject.
