So, Valentine's Day is coming up. And, I kinda hate Valentine's Day. And not because I'm single, or lonely, or blah blah... any of those whiny "woe is me" things you hear about V-Day.
And not because, um, let's face it -- I'm not much of a romantic. Hearts with doilies? Boxes of chocolate? Mushy cards? Soooo not my style. I mean, noone who knows me would call me emotionally reserved. I'm affectionate. I'm loving. I have no problems expressing my feelings for people. I just don't ... get mushy. (Although, I'll take flowers. I LOVE flowers. I was spoiled, with my first two boyfriends, who loved to give me flowers. But in the last twelve years, I've only gotten flowers from my dad. OK, so my dad rocks, but c'mon. I deserve some flowers sometimes, right?)
No, mostly I hate Valentine's Day because it's... well, tacky. And stupid. I mean, do I need a special day to tell someone I love him? Do I need an excuse to go out for a nice dinner? I'd rather he buy me flowers any other day, honestly. Why do we have to have a day to be loving to one another?
I love random surprise gifts. I like a decent romantic comedy. I love to go out for a nice dinner, where I have a bit of an excuse to dress up. I like to put on lingerie that I wear for five minutes until he takes it right back off of me. I adore hearing "I love you" for no reason whatsoever, other than I told one of my funny little stories, and then laughed uproariously at myself, and he looks at me and his face softens, and he says, "I love you so much." Hey, buy me lingerie (flowers, random gifts that made you think of me) anytime! Just not on a day when you're supposed to. How meaningful is it, honestly, to give gifts, go out for dinner, have sex on a day when you're supposed to do all those things?
So, I'll go out to dinner any other day. I'll make love, buy flowers, say "I love you." Any day but Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day? I stay in and eat leftovers.

Oh, yeah, I don't celebrate anniversaries, either. :D (Now birthdays... I always celebrate those! May is "Tanya is a Princess" Month! Remember!)
