What are you waiting for?
While everyone says your brain runs your actions and your thoughts, I don't believe this to be the case. I think that I have three succinctly different "control centers" that are responsible for running the day to day "Pete."
The first control center would naturally be my brain. It handles all the important things, go to work, earn money so you can have food and a place to live. My brain is Mr. Responsibility. Sure when I was younger, my brain had such gems like “Take apart the TV, you can put it back together before your parents get home” without the benefit of “You may want to unplug it first” or “Wanna see what happens when you hold a lit firecracker in your hand?” But now, I’m older and more worldly, my brain doesn’t lead me down those paths anymore (much.) When I say that I am usually right, that is all on the brain, it can remember tons of crap that you wonder how did it even know that, and it adds new stuff at an alarming rate.
The second control center would be my heart. They say the heart is complicated, but really it just wants love. Now love is complicated, I’ll give you that, but the heart simply wants it. There are many kinds of love the heart wants, the love of objects (you ever seen hoarders? That shit is real!), the love of places, the love of animals, the love of people, and receiving love back from those people, or one person above all. Given the opportunity, the heart will always seek love.
The third and final control center would have to be my penis, I am a man after all. No one says the penis is complicated, it just wants to do the one thing it’s designed to. Don’t argue that it also urinates, because you can urinate without a penis, you just can’t write your name in the snow without a bunch of fancy acrobatics.
In this trinity, usually the brain has the lead, but the heart and the penis constantly battle to take control. They form an alliance because the heart convinces the penis that Love will get it all the sex it wants, and the penis just can’t turn down that buffet. Hard working as the brain is, sometimes it needs a little time off, so it may take a vacation with some alcohol, and look out because then the duties get taken over by the two who really shouldn’t be running the show. Plus the heart and the penis are tired of Mr Smartypants anyway.
Sometimes it can be fun just to watch the dynamics of the three interacting. For example, I recently went to see Toy Story 3, and the conversation went a little something like this:
Brain: This movie used a lot of computing power to achieve those effects, and look at that, it is a reference to the studio where they filmed the first movie.
Heart: Oh, poor toys, they just want Andy to play with them one last time, why won’t he play with his toys.
Penis: I think that chick in the seat over is not wearing a bra, ooo, I’ll go get that piece of popcorn she dropped.
