An 85 year old man I know just found out today that he needs to have major surgery. His doctor says that he has a 50/50 chance of making it through the surgery, and only a 30 percent chance of a full recovery. This is his 8th surgery in the last 15 months. 6 of the 7 prior operations were major. Without the surgery, he has a life expectancy of 2 months. He has lived a long, full, happy life.
If it were you, would you have the surgery and hope for the best, or spend the next 2 months living life to its fullest?
