I've been hurt;

My heart has known great pain.

Sometimes it's hard to see the sunshine,

Through the seemingly eternal rain.

But it can't rain forever;

I can't let hope die.

As hard as it is to open my heart,

I know I've gotta try.

I am strong and caring;

My love knows no bounds.

The right man can benefit from this,

If only he is ever found.

I can't keep playing it safe,

Fearing the hurt and pain.

For if I do this,

I will never find love again.

So, for now, I will not seek,

Not even for a minute,

A man who's whole heart,

Is not totally in it.

Some men can't see

What is standing right before them -

A woman who is worth it.

But yet they still condemn.

Fearing all women are the same

As the ones who've hurt them in the past.

They reject the one who is different;

Assuming this one, too, will not last.

I am strong because I can open up,

Yet weak because I am easily hurt.

And, although I know it in my heart,

I sometimes doubt my self worth.

With all the people in this world,

Why is it so hard to find,

Someone with whom you can connect,

With your heart, soul, and mind?

Yet still I believe there is a man,

Perfect just for me.

May God grant me the patience,
