The song writer wrote...
Heatfelt words, of sincerity and rhyme
Set to sweet melodies
I recall from time to time
In moments of stillness
As I find the time to think...
Just after the hour of midnight
When I sit alone and drink
I recall certain tunes
With words that relate...
Those memories come alive again
A smile comes to my face
Those moments...That time
Kept close within my heart
When you and I were all that mattered
Close in the seat of my car...
The cassette deck played
Those songs that were written for us
Like Bon Jovi sang,
About a "Bed of Roses"
I found my place in this life
Was inside your loving arms
I was captivated and consumed...
By your charms
Now I am without you...
Left are the Tearful melodies
And I live with them tonight....
Within my memories
Speak not to me of loves tender embrace...
Not of kissess blessed by sweet lips, touched unto my face
Speak not to me of softest whispers, spoken to my ears
Not of heartfelt desires, as lovers do when they lay so near
Speak not to me, of sun swept fields, where lovers lay in dandilion grass
Not of misty scarlet, or crimson dreams which always come to pass
But speak to me of lonely songs, of a broken heart and tears
All you left for me to hold onto, as you left me here
Tell me again, so I can smile, of a love can forever last
tell me of every memory I can find, at the bottom of this glass
Say to me, that you still love me, so I can still laugh
Through the tears that keep on falling on this faded photograph
Tell me, you will always have feelings for me, so I might slightly feel
The whiskey burning into my mind....just before I hear
The shattering of this whiskey glass, against the mirrored wall...
Speak not to me as I pass out, so I can't hear at all
Roses always bloomed there
Though it seemed so strange...
A deserted piece of rocky ground
Where the weather always changed
But everytime he would visit there
And climb the broken trail...
He always found a rose in bloom
So fragile and so fraile
No one, save him, knew the story
Of what happened long ago...
Near a tiny, little villiage-town
On the border of Mexico
A young man from he East
Came West to settle down
He fell in love with a beautiful young lady
That had grown up near the town
Her raven hair glistened
When touched by the evening wind
Her dark eyes, wickedly beautiful
Mysterious as a sin
He planted a gargen of wild roses for her
As a symbol of his love
She spoke words of devotion to him
And they both vowed to the stars above
That as long as they loved eachother
The roses would forever bloom
No matter the season or the weather...
Sunshine or stormy gloom
The town made him a law-man
He put on a star and gun...
She kept their home so tidey and neat
She kept the home fires warm
Until the night the raiders came
And ravaged the quiet town
He killed a number of the band
But still they gunned him down
She laid him there among the roses
In the garden near their home
The pain was more than she could stand
She picked up his gun, her life was gone
She was laid to rest next to him
In their garden, their promises there to keep
If you ever visit there...
Forever Roses you will see
He rode a firey horse
The fastest anyone had seen
His armor shined in the sun
His sword sharp and clean
N'er a man had bested him
Not with fist nor with blade
N'er a woman had held him close
N'er their beds he'd made
The only love in his heart
Was held for his Queen
His duty and his only oath
Was given to her upon his knee
He had fought well for her kingdom
and oft he'd stood alone
For the wicked Lords of the court
secretly planned to steal the throne
Send him on a quest, said one
send him now forth
to slay the firey beast
that dwell in nthe mountains North
it will surely devour him
against us none shall stand
we can take the kingdom and the Queen
so began their evil plan
The shining knight rode the day
and well into the night
he stopped to rest beside a brook
Appeared the dragon ready to fight
It breathed fire and smoke
and knocked the knight from his horses back
the fire burned an acid hot
It scortched his armor black
the knight drew his sword and charged at it
and struck a mighty blow
He killed the beast and won the fight
Yet as it died...it spoke
Loyal knight, knowest thou
In grave danger is your Queen
The evil Lords of the kingdom court
hath laid her castle to seize
Ride young knight, and do not stop
She is in the highest tower
Take with you my final gift
I give the dragons fire
He mounted his horse and like the wind
He rode at lightning speed
the anger burned within his heart
He had to save the Queen
He topped the hill and reared his horse
the walls guarded by 20 men
he saw the tower where she was
the anger rose again
he charged the gate, his battle cry
the guards beheld the sight
Their nightmare true before their eyes
M' Lord the Black Knight!
before their fear had fully gripped
His blade was all they had seen
he slew them all in an instants time
Now on to free the Queen
The tower steps were guarded too
The assasins hidden well
they sprang with blades at ready to strike
but were consumed by flames from neath his helm
The chamber door, of sturdy oak
shattered at his heel
The frightened Lords, at the sight of him
begged his mercy, and to their knees they fell
He spoke not a word
He drew his sword instead
Thunder roared from high above
He'd severed off their heads
He turned to the Queen and looked at her
Tho frightened, she'd stood her place
he removed his helm and raised his head
So she could see his face
He lifted her up into his arms
and carried her from the chambers gloom
He gently sat her rightly there
Upon her royal throne
The Knight unto the Bishop said
I'm weary of the slain and dead
Mine sword hath banished Kings to death
Knights and pawns and all the rest
I now put away mine sword and shield
I put away mine horse that strode the field
I fight no more, my time is done
Upon this day the game was won
The Devil sat brooding, behind the board
what can make this Knight pick up his sword
With an evil laugh, and eyes agleam
I know the trick, I'll take his Queen
I have her, Knight what wilst you do?
Wilst you fight alone for her majesty true?
The Knight turned in his square, and charged the field
and destroyed the black army with the sword he'd weild
A dash to his left, and forward twice
He beheaded the Devils remaining Knight
He thrust his blade neath the Devils chin
You have lost the game Check mate...again
He thought he had held the secret well
The pain and ware of his time in hell
To feel ashamed of all he'd done
alone and away from eyes that shun
The explosion, the fire, the burning skin
the I E D destroyed the vehicle he was in
The 'gifts" he recieved from that war
pain, fear, hurt, and scars
He tried to hide the fear and hurt
Bury them deep within the dirt
Yet everytime he closed his eyes
the fire would fall from smoke filled skys
The vehicle exploded again and again
He hears the screams of his best friend
Jolted awake from the endless nightmares
covered in sweat, he sits and stares
All the terror of that sight
reborn, relived in sleep each night
The wounded screams and silent dead
locked forever in his head
I lay awake, and long for sleep
The wind outside makes the willows weep
I hear, so well the lonley cries
I remember every tear that fell from my eyes
But I quit crying when the liquor ran out
and I made myself so strong again some how
I buried every moment of what once was you and I
I vowed to every star up in the sky...
That the very depths of hell would freeze before I'd shed another tear
That I would overcome the pain, the hurt, and the fear...
But as the thoughts of you, as if carried by that wind
Like a shadows whisper, gentley seep in
They tease my mind, they trick and decieve
the flames of hell are beginning to freeze
Tears fell like raindrops
The night they had to part
Two sets of eyes told the story well
Of both their broken hearts
Her soft brown eyes
They pleaded, for him to understand
He begged her to come away with him
Tho she was promised to another man
He knew full well she could not go
For come the morning he was off to fight
He could not deny his duty vow
She couldn't betray tradition, even tho it was not right
Both their eyes, cried that night
Well into the day
As he left her there where they had met
On the beaches of Tokyo Bay
He carried her picture with him
He carried it near his chest
Looking at her image got him through
The bullets, bombs, and the death
She never married...
She defied traditions grace
For she loved only him
She carried a picture of his handsome face
As night would fall, the moon would find
Both holding their pictures close to their hearts
In both their eyes welled with tears
The crying eyes would start
She found the news that he had fell
In a place called IwoJima hill
She took her life in Hiroshima
Just before the bomb had killed
The war had killed them both
Each in its own way, they shared the pain
Now the angels cry for them
In Japan, everytime it rains
Speaketh not, to me, this night
of what the morn may bring
Not of duty nor of oath
Not of kingdoms nor of Kings
Let us stead whisper words as lovers both
Layeth aside thy scepter and thy crown
I wilst put away mine royal crest
and cast mine sword into the ground
Let us taste the wine upon eachothers lips
as they meet in sweet surrenders kiss
Forsaking all the outside world
for this moment of tender bliss
I seeketh not a treasures hold
Not of title nor of fame
For all mine heart could ever want
is for thee, to whisper mine name
And to hold me there within thine heart
wherest none other mayest be found
and cometh to me as the moon sits high
and once more put aside thy crown
For with the morrow, should I face,
Treason, or a traitors death
Know my love, I wilst whisper thy name
With my very last breath
There are monuments
scattered across the land
They aren't made of gold or marble
they aren't rare or grand
Just a rifle driven barrel down
a helmet rests upon the butt
empty boots upon the ground
Each monument
though small and crude
Tells a story
of honor true
For they signify
a soldier lost
Rightly named
a Battle Cross
For those who died
in Iraq and Afganistan
we left our tears
at these monuments in the sand
