A beautiful church full of hope and warmth... I close my eyes feeling the sun warm upon my skin. My eyes flutter open and gaze upon the floor. Such beautiful intricate detailed imagery surrounds me. I am basking in the design that glows off my skin and all that is around me. I am surrounded by beauty and my heart flutters happily dancing in its radiance. It is the stained glass window above, a vision of serenity and art etched so carefully. I can only imagine the time, the effort that went into creating such a masterpiece. I want to get closer to examine its intricacy, to run my fingers softly over the colored panes. I see the rock coming for the distance…. To my horror it shatters the glass sending it’s sharp shards as a shower over my head. I try to shield myself from the impact, but sometimes there is no protection from how deep things may sink in. I am deeply wounded and tears flow freely. Such a masterpiece is in ruins at my feet. All safety lost, the warmth stolen from the empty hollow where the window was. I reach down with shaking hands to pick up a shard with all of its sharp rough edges. As my tear trails hot anger down my cheek It splatters messily over the piece. It is then that I realize the glass is just that.
The beautiful design I saw was nothing but common marker as it slowly rubs off staining my hands. A mere illusion cleverly crafted to make one think there was more. I SEE THROUGH YOU. I brush the tainted glass from my shoulders, dress my wounds and walk on. For what more can you do in a world of forgeries?
