    • Husband's latkes potatoe pancakes)..a traditional Hanukkah food, was wonderful. We play argue over the the many names they are called by many peoples...but it no matter..they are still yummy.
We also incorperate foods like borscht, buckwheat loaves, etc. thru the coming days.My most favorite is an Ashkanazi dish.
Roll out two massive amounts of puff pastry. With the first one..cut it in the shape of a fish...2 feet long by 14 inches wide.
Then, begin layering things like lemon rice, smoked salmon,hAomemade egg noodles, diced cooked egg, eggs benedict sauce, some dill and parsley.(Non-kosher adds diced turkey and ham, maybe caviar).
Then make a second fish from the puff pastery.Use a beaten egg yolk, melted butter or milk      around the edge of the bottom one,lay on the top and press the edges together to seal it all.
With the left over puff pastry, first make an eye.(Three circlesbigger, medium and smaller for a three -D look. Then, start cutting the 'scales',A scissor works better than a knife.Paint on more of the egg, milk or butter and lay the scales on to look like fish scales. When iiiit cooks, the scales pop up and you get a real nice 3-D effect.
A cold doup is made too. in individual glass dessertcups...pour softened  cream cheese (about 1/3 fill),then another layer of chicken consumme (not broth, you want the thicker consumme to jell in the fridge). Top with caviar and fine chopped dill and chives,or green onion if chives are not in season).
The meal is followed by homemade Black Forrest cake..made with real Kirshwasser..a cherry liqure).
Or, a torte.A soft cookie mix, divide in two.one half, add cinnamon powder and almond flavor. The other half, instant coffee crystals and powder cocoa to make mocha flavor.
I  do not tend to go by the book and measure only by eye.
make three huge'cookies',bake, cool and then begin to layer( alternating white and then brown) using real whipped cream between the layers.
Cover the outside of the torte as you would with icing and refridgerate for atleast one day so the flavors'marry' and the cookies become softer.
Shave Backers Chocolate on top,add a few cherries and you now have heaven on your tastebuds. (-:

For my Saer Friend....

Write em down, seal em up
Or pour em out into a cup
Feel em come and watch em go
Sometimes the cup does overflow
Hold em close or let em fly
But either way, don't be shy
Show the world just who you are
Display em in a mason jar
They're yours to have or give away
You may just get em back one day

IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM
The World’s Most Famous WAR MEMORIAL POEM
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

http://www.mp3-codes.com/play/138379/Shs_Concert_Choir-In_Flanders_Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915
during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium
