Because I travel for work on occasion to less often traveled places, I like finding people to chat with from those areas. I tend to ask a lot of questions about travel tips, dining suggestions, things to see, etc. It sucks being out in sparsely populated areas, and not knowing where you can find a good meal or something to do in the off hours. "Yelp" is my friend in cities, but in most of the rural US it has a very thin coverage. If I contact you for help, honest, I am not asking for a date. I wouldn't do that to someone I've never met.
