What are you waiting for?

After 10 years on various terrestrial airwaves across the country, and 16+ years rocking the net, I have sadly decided to end my broadcasting career and hang up the microphone. My internet broadcast home for many years, Live365 has ceased operations as of today, 31 Jan, 2016. I am proud to have been one of a handfull of founding broadcasters on a network that was a pioneer in the streaming music business. This was back in the days before Spotify and Pandora, before Sonos, Soundcloud, iTunes and the rest, Live365 was born alongside Napster and satellite radio. I was living in Los Angeles and doing radio production and commercial voiceover work when I was invited to program a broadcast at the fledgling network through friends I had at Alesis and Media One. The station I programmed, Airwaves FM, began broadcasting 6 June, 1999. It has been a wild ride both economically, from the pre-dotcom bust days all the way through the Great Recession, as well as technologically, with internet radio going from an unknown, quirky, muddy idea to a ubiquitous technology that hundreds of millions enjoy. Sadly, Live365's portion of the ride is ending. Although this may feel like something didn't work, the reality is it did for a very long time. Live365 not only survived a dot-com bust, it changed the way that people listen to legal music. I really believe that paid streaming services that exist today would not be here had not Live365 cleared the way ahead for them. It won't be remembered that way, but it should. Live365 was just a decade and a half ahead of its time. It has been an honor and privilege to have been a founding broadcaster there and interacting with many talented individuals that made up the network. The first six years there were a total blast with people like Darla J, Betty, Zebby, and many others. On air antics, and later conversations in the green room and chat were an absolute scream and totally out of control. Damn, I miss those days. For anyone who took the time to seek us out and tune in, thank you for sharing the music and fun. So long Airwaves FM. So long Live 365!
