Gaines's blog: "Randon Thoughts"

created on 09/17/2008  |  http://fubar.com/randon-thoughts/b246117
Ok, so there are two politicians running for president. That these two belong to the two parties that control our country should be disturbing to all of us. Yet we have been conditioned to accept this arrangement as being in our own best interest. I for one find it too constraining as I would like more of a choice besides two guys chosen by people who have to belong to one party or another. I belong to neither, but the choice is limited to these two clowns. So these two guys are going to be interviewed by a pastor to determine their religious credentials. Excuse me? I have heard all my life about how this country was founded by "Christians." Nothing could be further from the truth. The men who founded our country were "Humanists" not Christians. That's not to say that they did not believe in God, I am sure they did, but they took a more pragmatic view of the world here and worried less about the one to come. Humanism is an approach to life emphasizing ethics, rationality, and intelligent compassion. Furthermore, Humanism asserts that -- * Reason and science are the soundest means for investigating claims of truth. * All ideas, values, myths, and social systems are based on human experience. * Free thought thrives best in free, democratic societies. Some famous Humanists have been...... Thomas Jefferson, (he wrote the Declaration of Independence) Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain and Herman Melville (he wrote Moby Dick) Not one of these men would call themselves a "Christian" and some of them were essential to founding our country. Now we seem to have a litmus test that the candidates must pass in order to get the "Evangelical" vote. Our country is so divided that the candidates have to worry about the "black" vote, the "Hispanic" vote and maybe even the "transgendered midget stripper" vote. I guess they want to lobby for shorter poles to dance on. Is it no wonder that the average person fails to even bother to vote? These candidates are pulled in so many different directions, they make so many promises that they cannot possibly keep because doing so may well piss off some other group. Imagine what might happen if shorter stripper poles were installed in strip clubs. Those strippers taller than 4'11" will be unable to properly perform and their income will fall. I can assure both of the candidates that they do not want a group of angry strippers outside their offices demanding longer poles. ;)
