Jake's blog: "Ramblings by Jake"

As information for those using YouTube music videos on FuBar & Elsewhere:

Adobe will stop supporting Flash Player (the encoding for these videos) after December 31, 2020 (“EOL Date).

After the EOL Date, Adobe does not intend to issue Flash Player updates or security patches.  Therefore, Adobe will continue to prompt users (sites & browsers) to uninstall Flash Player and strongly recommends that all users immediately uninstall Flash Player.

To help secure users’ systems, Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021.

I asked the staff here about this. They are looking into the matter.

Majestic

That's why we call it The Majestic. Any man, woman, child could buy their ticket, walk right in. Here they'd be, here we'd be. "Yes sir, yes ma'am. Enjoy the show." And in they'd come entering a palace, like in a dream, like in heaven. Maybe you had worries and problems out there, but once you came through those doors, they didn't matter anymore. And you know why? Chaplin, that's why. And Keaton and Lloyd. Garbo, Gable, and Lombard, and Jimmy Stewart and Jimmy Cagney. Fred and Ginger. They were gods. And they lived up there. That was Olympus. Would you remember if I told you how lucky we felt just to be here? To have the privilege of watching them. I mean, this television thing. Why would you want to stay at home and watch a little box? Because it's convenient? Because you don't have to get dressed up, because you could just sit there? I mean, how can you call that entertainment, alone in your living room? Where's the other people? Where's the audience? Where's the magic? I'll tell you, in a place like this, the magic is all around you. The trick is to see it.

Musical Groups

More ramblings...this time about musical groups with city/parts of city names in their names. Found it interesting as to the motivation for being identified with a particular city or area. Obviously has worked for some.... Just off-hand I offer Chicago, Manhattan Transfer, Boston. How about Credence "Clearwater" Revival, or Miami Sound Machine. Any others come to mind?

Life is.........

I quote from memory:

"One day I was walking through a field in Selonika. There I saw an old man planting an almond tree. Now boss, this man looked as if he had a day or two at the most left to live. But there he was planting this almond tree. So I said, 'Old man why are you planting  this almind tree?". He looked at me and said, "Sonny, I live as though I would never die". How about that boss. He lives as though he would never die. Me? I live as though I would die any minute. For that reason and only that reason I am free."
