Life and death is part of every day life, which is emphasized in this profession. I couldn't count how many people I have seen take their last breath, how many febrile seizing children have been handed to me, nor the countless heartbroken families that have been told that their loved one is critical. however, tonight was my nightmare come true. A 15 year old girl was brought in with massive internal injuries from a car crash. The driver of the car an 18 year old male who was more than 3 times over the legal limit as we worked to save her the doctors myself and techs did everything in our power to stabilize her but once we had one part under control 2 more would pop up then 3 more i will never forget looking into her eyes and seeing the fear and pain she was having i was praying to God please lord don't let this happen she is so young had so many dreams and life to live After she passed its every doctors nightmare to walk out and inform the family I'm sorry we did all we could do. i have been an ER/Trauma nurse for over 17 years I will never forget the sobs coming from her father who Will never be able to hold his little girl again or walk her down the aisle as she gets married i will never forget the wailing of her mom the gut reaching screams of not being able to brush her hair or go shopping with her baby, but the thing i will remember most for as long as i live will be the parents saying we had no idea she was out with this boy FOR GODS SAKE PEOPLE BE A PARENT TO YOUR CHILDREN YOUR NOT THEIR FRIEND!!! know what your kids are doing who their seeing watch for the signs of trouble they may get mad tell you they hate you ect but in the long run what could be worse than losing them for good? with the death and sorrow that comes into the emergency room, life, relief, and joy walk out those doors that is what we as health care providers believe otherwise as humans we wouldn't be able to get up and go to work. one final word tell the ones that you love tell them you love them never regret that you didn't
