| Today, the US Supreme Court has declared the entirety of the Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, constitutional, including the most hotly contested individual mandate, requiring every citizen to have health insurance or pay a penalty of a portion of their income. Chief Justice Roberts, in his opinion, believes that the penalty amounts to a tax, contrary to the Obama administration's position. However, Roberts argues, the Federal government does have the right to tax. The argument against the mandate was that it forced people to have health insurance, infringing upon the liberty of the individual. I'd like to know what you think about the ruling and Roberts' logic. Should Obamacare have stood? Does the individual mandate amount to a tax? Why or why not? |
