new york state firefighter's blog: "new freinds"

today i left the house at 4 am to be in my car for 5 hours stuck at a gas station outside of mexico new york. then my day began when i arrived at work , my normal trip is only 20 minutes. it was snowing 5 inches an hour and you just cant see anything when it snows that hard, anyway we are dealing with it we just keep digging out each day. oswego county is under a state of ememrgency and we are just praying it stops soon!!!

well i didnt make it to work today, i have to drive 22 miles to get there. and when the roads and fields look the same thats not a good thing lol. im going to try and make it in tomorrow, butwe are supposed to get hit again tonight . yesterday afternoon i spent the day with the weather channel people they were awesome, they got a real tough job!!! my hat goes off to those guys, mike slidell and tatianna were wonderful. well that how my two days in central new york have went !! stay tuned lol !!! david

A FIREFIGHTER'S LIFE!!! It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do not take the time to read this you are one of the people this post is talking about. You stay up for 16 hours Hes been up for 48 straight _________________________ You take a warm shower to help you wake up. The rain in the middle of the interstate keeps him awake. __________________________ You complain of a "headache", and call in sick. He's chilled to the bone, hasnt eaten all day, has the flu, and then runs into a burning building __________________________ You drink your coffee on your way to the mall. He pumps on a five years olds chest on the way to the hospital. __________________________ You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket. He makes sure the pass device on his pack is working. __________________________ You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you. He watches his buddy fall through the floor. __________________________ You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls. He walks down the highway looking for the motorcyclists missing limb. _________________________ You complain about how hot it is. He wears fifty pounds of gear in the middle of July and drags a body out of 1600 degree flames. __________________________ You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong. He hasnt seen a meal since last shift ate breakfast. __________________________ Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. Hes worn the same stinking, wet, grungy clothes for the past 24 hours....no time for a shower. __________________________ You go to the mall and get your hair redone. He holds the hair of some college girl while shes puking in the back of the ambo. __________________________ You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. His shift ended 2 hours ago and hes on for another 24 hours after being ordered in. __________________________ You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. He calls his girlfriend to tell her he made it back alive....then leaves abrubtly for another fire. __________________________ You yell and scream at the engine that just past you beacuse they slowed you down. Hes in the back of the engine, going to cut somebody out of their car only to find out that they're dead and their daughter is barely alive. __________________________ You roll your eyes as a baby cries. He cries as he hears his new born cry in the hospital....but he was taking a drunk teenager in when his boy was born. __________________________ You criticize your fire dept and say their never there quick enough anyways. He blows the air horn while the person in front of them refuses to move while talking on their cell phone and doing their makeup. __________________________ You hear the jokes about fallen firefighters and say they should have known better. He feels the floor give way while hes carrying an old lady from her bedroom and tosses her on to the hard floor and falls into the unknown. __________________________ You see the bright lights when you go by and stare. He sees the broken bodies lying around the car and has to pay attention to make sure you don't hit him/her with your car because you are not paying attention to the road. __________________________ You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't. He looks into buying a bullet proof vest because he may get shot trying to save a shooting victims life. __________________________ You stay at home and watch TV. He takes his spare time to wash the wagon, restock the ambo and maybe call his mother to tell her not to worry, he'll be home the next night __________________________ You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. He tries to sleep on his spring board bed but keeps getting woken up by the gong and bell, ahh, one hour of sleep, it should due till tommorow night. __________________________ You sit there and judge him, saying the that its a waste of money to have them around. Garbage truck workers make more than he does, but its not for the money, its for the people who dont appreciate what he does. ___________________________ If you support your local firefighters, repost this with a "A fireman's life" If you don't support your firefighter well, then don't repost, it's not like you care any way. read

looks like its not gonna stop too soon we may get up to 4 feet of the stuff!!!

well its snowing and we have about 3 feet of fresh snow and its still snowing , im waiting for my plow guy to plow me out, and if there are any fires tonight the boys will have to swing by and pick me up!!!

the lake effect is finally here !!! we are going to get close to two feet of snow whoooo hoooo!!!

well it seems like yesterday i turned 21 where the hell did the time go !!! im turning 50 tomorrow and im still going strong thank god!! the guys at the firehouse call me the everready bunny i just keep going!! im taking my advanced firefighter course next month then im taking line officer 1 course after that and i have to fit in a trip to the new york state fire academy this winter . guess im gonna be busy for ahwile .. well just an update on what im doing. and thank god i have an understanding wife thru all of this!! keep the faith and be safe!!! david

You thought she couldn't climb I want to say her neck's not broke, that she will be just fine I don't want to say she's paralyzed, I want to tell you lies I want to tell this teen his buddies didn't die in vain Because he thought that it'd be cool to try to beat that train I don't want to tell him this will haunt him all his life I want to say that he'll forget, I want to tell him lies You left the cabinet open and your daughter found the gun Now you want me to undo the damage that's been done You tell me she's your only child, you say she's only five I don't want to say she wont see six, I want to tell you lies He fell into the pool when you just went to grab the phone It was only for a second that you left him there alone If you let the damn phone ring perhaps your boy would be alive But I don't want to tell you that, I want to tell you lies The fact that you were speeding caused that car to overturn And we couldn't get them out of there before the whole thing burned Did they suffer? Yes, they suffered, as they slowly burned alive But I don't want to say those words, I want to tell you lies But I have to tell it like it is, until my shift is through And then the real lies begin, when I come home to you, You ask me how my day was, and I say it was just fine I hope you understand, sometimes, I have to tell you lies

winter storm blowing into central new york but so far no alarms its been a peacefull night, we will see what the early morning hours bring !!!!
