Flight of the Destroyer

Peace, prosperity, and help...

Those things were the trump card in the D.I.P.s corperation. Those thoughts lead it's few people forward into an age of great success.

When the corp was still fresh, I, Enna Elios, joined the ranks under the supervision of Ash and Ben Murder. Followed by my former pilot, Taksen Luminox, we saw potential and wanted a piece of it for ourselves. We made the long journey from Heimatar to the Forge and later settled down in the corp system known as Mitsolen. Armed with nothing but a Rifter Frigate and a couple of weapons, we made our living.

Then word came back home... We were moving to a better sector.

After looking at many star charts for countless nights, we found that there was only one way to our newfound home of Otalieto and it was through a pirate infested space, a small space known as Aunenen. Tiring of the backwater systems, I packed my things and waited anxiously for the gate to clear.

Knowing it was going to be a dangerous jump, and that I might only get one chance, I packed the bulk of my things into my Cyclone Battlecruiser and sat at a station just outside of Aunenen while Cham, a higher ranked officer, scouted the system keeping track of the pirates, watching their activity in a safe distance closer to Otalieto. As I sat, eating the bland meals and foods that came in dozens of metallic-looking packages I've seen my whole life, I began to question my piloting skills for this jump. Would I make it? What happens if I dont? I'm taking a huge risk. The loss will set me back years of research and planning.

Planning... There's something, i thought to myself, I've lost sight of. Had I kept with my originial goals, I could have been a pilot of that great and wonderous ship already. But I have been sidetracked so many times. I knew, that if I could make this jump, I would finish my current project and go straightforward to my goals.

"Enna, come in, Enna."
"This is Enna, go ahead."
"The pirate activity across the gate is thinning. I think I've found the perfect time, when they go back to their stations to reload, you'll be able to make it safely across with little resistance."
"15k, that's a long ways to travel. Not to mention to the time it will take for my Battlecrusier to launch it's Fukijawa-Warp drive systems and get to the other Star Gate in time."
"I know, that's why I want you to meet up with Crass Biggs, he's another pilot in this system who is looking to make this jump. He'll be able to help you out. Now hurry, there isn't much time."

Off I went, forgetting to pay for my meal, and went to find Crass. He was docked outside a CDE military station, his ship, a fast and deadly Crusier, was all loaded up and next to him were crates needed for my ship. He told me to attach the nanofiber interfacings to my Warp Drive systems. It would help lower my inertia fields and make me warp faster. I quickly fitted them onto my Cyclone and headed to sit outside the Star Gate waiting for the ok. Crass followed shortly after.

My nerves were shot. My arms were shaking. I was putting everything into this jump, praying to whatever celestial being was up there that I would make it alive and unscathed. I began to hyperventaliate. I couldn't see, couldn't control my breathing. My hand was on the star map, and my finger was about to select Mitsolen to go back when....

"GO!GO!GO! THE GATE IS CLEAR!!"
"Roger!"

....My hand threw on the throttle and activated the Warp Gate. Crass flew past me and hit the gate first. Disolving into a million micro particles and being shot through a interstellar cannon to the next star system.

I emerged, and before i could even look around. I was being target painted and locked onto by more than 20 pirates. Over the intercom i could hear Cham screaming to turn back, that they came out of nowhere! This large group of pirates sent everything flying at me, bullets and rockets hit my shields. I hit the warp button, the engine wouldn't start. I hit it again, nothing. I turned on my Micro Warp Drive, nothing. The ship wouldn't move.

On my HUD, I saw the message: "Fukijawa-Warp Systems Malfuncioning, target in location 006723 of the Aunenen system is Warp Scrambling the ships functions."

That explained the Warp Drive.... As I turned to look at the other monitor, I knew what it would say: "Target in location 004612 orf the Aunenen system is Webbifying your nativation computers."

There was nothing i could do. The missiles, rockets, and bullets beat on my ship. I sat back, pulled out a cigar, lit it, and watched the last bit of my shields reach 0%. The lights began to flash, "Warning. Warning. Hull has been breached. Warning. Warning."

The heavenly female computer voice echoed, I found it comforting. I turned off the comm channel, the screaming didn't help the situation. The last thing I heard was that Crass made it. They had targeted me first, completely missed Crass. Good...

The last thing I remember, is seeing shrapnel shatter the viewscreen in front of me, and the vaccume of space, obliterating my body....

Bombardment

"The world is inhabited by Man. Other races, monsters and such are mythology and legend. Your characters have been drawn together by a common attribute - the ability to see what others cannot. In your early teens, you could see things that others could not - things from legend and myth. These things have caused great embarrassment for your parents, and the local populace has labeled you all as crazy, some even calling you possessed.

Your ability to control your sight has slowly grown. Now that you have reached maturity, your ability can be turned on/off at will. However, it is not always effective. You are hoping that with time and practice that you'll be able to make it a little more reliable.

One thing that you can see 100% of the time is your true self and those of your friends. Some of you have even realized, through your recent enlightenment, the power to use magic.

The town had always thought the group was strange, but the turning point was when you began to appear as your true self to others. This is the point at which the townsfolk turned on you all. Only your parents stayed the masses, asking for exile, rather than death. They were horrified by what you all had become, but you were still their children.

The myths and legends of the past are real and you may be the only people on the planet to see it... "

It was too late.. I couldn't hide myself from others now. My goblin ism shown brightly through and everyone could see it. My fellow companions were cast out of the village. Told to get on a boat and leave forever. Little did they know... I would return... And wipe out their pitiful Little planet.

6 months... And we finally hit shore... It was a huge cliff-face that scaled the tallest mountains ever seen. So we traveled up, for what seemed like days...

When we reached a patch of stone that was reasonably flat, we camped for a while. Trying to catch our breath from the thin air that surrounded us. On top of it being hard to breathe, he air was so bitter and knifing our bodies every second. One poor bastard, a Cleric, woke up no more.

Looking a his frozen body, I kicked him, just to make sure he was dead. As I did this, a Human, who was half made of shadow, asked "What's he got on him?" So we did the reasonable thing and looted his body. Figured... He wouldn't be needing them anymore!

As we looted, picked through his holy trinkets, I heard a high pitched wine scream through the air. As the group turned around, a arrow hit the ground and we could hear the sounds of drunkenness.

The stone beneath us began to... Crack open!!! This little plateau fell apart and we fell down..

We landed; about 50 feet down, on a giant stage. Voices could be heard above us. As I waited, with my heavy crossbow pointed up, my companion had learned this "stage" is on a pivot, as they move, the stage moves from side to side, as if there was something underneath. To be safe, he shot a adamantine arrow into the wall attached to a 150' rope I had. As we attempted to pull ourselves over this stage, I saw one poke his head through the hole we fell through.

I fired. The bolt screamed through the air as it was surrounded by a "magical" force that pierced the victim right through the skull. It exited the backside as brain matter went all over his buddy. The body slumped over and began to fall down the hole.

The creature hit the deck hard, and the floor splintered as if it were nothing. The pivots that held the stage snapped and we all began to fall.

10 feet, 20 feet, 30 feet, 40, 50, 60.....

70.... It felt like it would never stop falling..

80, 90, 100 feet...

110, 120, 130, 140...

As we fell 140 feet, we feel something catch.. The stage, which had now become our fast-track elevator to our deaths slowed down!

150 feet....

We came to a complete stop.

There was wood everywhere. And this ragged body lying there.

So we did the rational thing. We built a fire... and cooked him. In case we'd need it, I saved a arm for later meals.

We began to navigate this winding cavern.

Down one hall, we could hear grunting from behind us. Turning around, we saw a piggish looking creature who was the height of a man. Green skin, and raggedy hair that bolted as soon as we looked into his eyes. So.. We waited for him to return, hiding in the walls. When he returned, my companion, charged him, and stabbed him. Dropped him in one swift slice.

Wondering where in the hell his creature came from, we proceeded down the hall it came from only to find three statues! As the Shadow (as I've come to name him since he's never told me his name) inspected the writings around the statue, we heard yet again grunting coming down from a hallway. This voice was lower, sounded bigger.

A creature came charging down the hall and had the same greenish tint but was a couple feet bigger and thinner! Reacting as quickly as I could, I put a bolt through his neck.

Turning the corner, we saw a creature that was the biggest I've ever seen. It stood damn near 12 fee tall, arms the size of me! Instinctively, we fired at it! But it sat there and took it! It looked at us, and began to burrow into the walls, as I ran down to the hole it was carving, it had turned around and was staring right back at me, ready to charge at a moments notice. I put my hands up as a sign of surrender, and threw my last chunk of meat to the creature.

It sniffed it, looked back at me, and in a snobby voice said:

"I don't eat Dwarf!"

And smacked the walls.

The tunnel he carved caved in and flew me back out towards my comrades.

I got up, dusted myself off, and began to chase him to a dead end.

There was a hole in the ground.. A black hole... Another party member, threw a staff in there. It disappeared. I touched it...... And felt my body teleported... Everything became dark... And I lost sight of what was around me.
