Fire Dragon

Look into the sky

Dragons of fire

With wings of fire

Fly between the clouds

They follow the sun

When it sets so far away

The dragons spread their wings

Lighting the evening sky

Beautiful amber light

Night comes

They fold their wings

Resting for another evening 

Lost In My Mind

Lost in my own world

So hungry

So thirsty

Where are the animals?

Where is the water?

Where is the light?

There isn’t one star to guide me

The sky is full of faint lights

To far away to help me find my way

No hope of ever seeing the sun again

It is a world of black

My mind is making me do without

Maybe it wants to kill me

I do not know

I do not care

Let it bring starvation

Let my tongue swell with thirst

I will fight with my last breath

Struggling against my mind

I will not let it win

I cannot let it win

I am stronger than anything my mind can create

It can keep its barren world

It can keep the dry river beds

I will survive despite my mind

I will survive

An Unspoken Love

A quiet darkness

Music plays so far off in the distance

The couple looks into each other’s eyes

There is an unspoken love between them

They hold each other as tight as they can

The music moves their bodies

Rhythmic tones match their beating hearts

Cool air warms around them as their feelings grow

The low sounds of the saxophone

A beat held by a deep mahogany bass

Sweet music from the ivory of an antique piano

All meet and create music that none may ignore

The two people who hide their feelings

Become enveloped in the magic

A dance in the light of only distance stars

A few whispered words

And a gentle kiss opens the world

They look in each other’s eyes and together they say three words

“I love you” fills the air between them and they become one

And…at last they are happy

A Bluish Violet Flower

A bluish violet flower watches from the shore of an ancient riverbed

A river born of fire when the Earth was new

Sulfuric air, ground ripped apart from Earth’s upheaval

Chemicals mixed with lightening to create life

Single celled animals and ancient reptiles

And a single plant on the burnt earth

A single plant with a single bluish violet flower

It lived its life with cooling water

Cattails lined the shore

A million flowers bloomed every spring

Fish and turtles swam in its currents

Children played on its shore

Laughing and jumping into the refreshing waters

The waters caressed the bluish violet flower

Giving it life saving moisture

Still the bluish violet flower watched the fish, the turtles and the children

The river long ago died

The riverbed that, from the beginning held life, is still now

Rocks of sandstones and granite create a natural blanket

The only fish are fossils of life millions of years old

That bluish violet flower

The one whose life began when time was young

The one who watched when life began and thrived in a lonely riverbed

It remembers the fish, the turtles, the children and the flowers

That bluish violet flower still watches

It watches the stillness and the silence

And all alone it mourns

Under The Weeping Willow

I saw you when we were kids

Playing with blocks on the kindergarten floor

We grew up

You became a beauty

I became a geek

I never had the never had the nerve to talk to you

Then we met

Under the weeping willow down on the shores of the river

We met, we held hands and we kissed

That old weeping willow shed its tears

The willow's tears that flowed in happiness

We had found the love we both wanted

I proposed and we wed

Promising to share our lives from then on

Never to part

I saw the love in your eyes

The geek married the beauty

And the rest of our lives began

Under the weeping will down on the shores of the river

We shared our vows

The rings shined on our finger

That old weeping willow shed its tears

The willow's tears that flowed in happiness

We had found the forever we both wanted

Our baby was born on a summer day

The sun was warm and the breeze gentle

She was named willow

And she smiled at the sun shining through the leaves

She loves her mother and father

All the love in the world could be seen in her eyes

We were the perfect family

A beautiful little girl with a future of love ahead

She brought pure happiness into our lives

That old weeping willow shed its tears

The willow's tears that flowed in happiness

We had found the family we both wanted

That winter the love of my life died

She went to sleep

She answered God's call

All her prayers would be answered

I am sure that she was welcomed to Heaven

And given a beautiful pair of wings

Under the weeping will down on the shores of the river

I laid her body to rest

A beautiful love that will last forever

She is smiling because she was loved

That old weeping willow shed its tears

The willow's tears that flowed in sadness

The love of my life was gone

Fractals

Colors, strands and beams

Arranged into a rainbow

Twisted around each other

They form a warped vision

Every piece large

Every piece small

Connected in an infinite web

Confusion and clarity

Chaos and order

All in one place

Spread across the Universe

It is seen in the mind

Conjured up in nightmares

Just a series of mathematical equations

Numbers in the right place at the right time

Creating such beauty

A Lasting Love

I lie here in the dark

A golden flame shines from a bayberry candle

The ancient rune of love carved into the dark red wax

Mistletoe hangs over every door and window

Spirits watch and pray

On the pillow next to me I see you

Your eyes shine with a love never known

Your lips want to be kissed and your skin glows in the faint light

I feel you breathe

I hear your soft sighs as you dream

It has been long for both of us

Tainted by mistakes of our youth

Years, no decades, we suffered

Knowing that each other existed

Yet never able to find the other

Our souls drifted

We searched, we dreamed and we had hope

I look at you in the darkened room

As you sleep beside me I see what I need to really live

My love for you and yours for me

A love that will last forever and a day.
