My First...
The first "song" I actually wrote was kinda auto-biographical...it was about my first divorce, and a "friend" who'd heard about it...I made a comment, in a chat room, one time about wanting to "put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink" ..one of the other chatters thought it should be a song...so...with that in mind..here is my offering for Toby Keith's next single...
I’ll Put a Bar in My Car (And Drive Myself to Drink) Lance Kirtley
My world’s been turned upside down
Since she went away
She packed her bags, took the kids,
And left me bills to pay
I didn’t know what to do
I could barely even think
I’ll put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink
I’ll put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink
And it’s all because of her that I had to see a shrink
My money’s gone and I’m in debt
But I ain’t gonna fret
I’ll put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink
She came to me with a smile
Her looks, they could kill
She asked me if I had a
little free time she could fill
Said,"I’ve been looking all around
for a man just like you"
And when she told me her plan I
knew just what to do
I’ll put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink
And it’s all because of her that I couldn’t sleep a wink
I’ll never get dressed in a tux
that cost a thousand bucks
I’ll put a bar in my car and drive myself to drink
I found out the real hard way
that what I did was wrong
And that is why I had to write my story in this song
I’m tellin’ you my lesson folks
I hope you won’t ignore
(spoken)
I forgot to get my license
From the State Beverage Board
I put a bar in my car and drove myself to drink
And it’s all because of them that I didn’t really think
I got fines out my ears
For the next thirty years
I put a bar in my car and drove myself to drink
