Origins Of Punk Rock

The sixties have come to a close and the advent of Hard Rock has created a new era of musical prowess. It is 1974 and four guys out of the heart of new york city start a band. The music is unlike anything ever done before. They Call it "Punk Rock" the band is The Ramones. Well punk rock doesn't DO very well in its native land so the ramones head to europe to try their luck. It's now 1976 and the ramones are in england touring. With each new show it seems like more and more fans are created. This gave rise to the british punk scene. The Sex Pistols, The Adicts, The Clash, Abrasive Wheels and Skrewdriver are ALL formed in the seventies after the wake of the ramones' impact in their country. It is believed that the SEX PISTOLS invented punk rock but this is false. they got started AFTER seeing the ramones play in their hometown along with the clash who i consider to be the grandfathers of Ska believe it or not. Now jump a year to 1977 punk rock has TAKEN OFF finally in the states and a NEW breed of punks is born, The Misfits are founded and create Horror Punk, a highly disturbing, yet undeniably catchy style of punk rock with heavy vocal influences from the likes of elvis and other crooners. Punk rock gets huge by the end of the seventies and into the eighties even amongst the advent of heavy metal. the end of the eighties sees a brand new take on punk rock with the founding of the Offspring in 87. they took punk rock and SPED it up enormously, taking some cues from the new hardcore scene that had popped up in the wake of thrash metal. the 90's saw all sorts of new forms of punk rock including Hardcore Punk, Melodic Hardcore, ska, Ska-core, Ska-punk and other forms. the nineties ALSO, however gave birth to the biggest AFFRONT to punk rock since its INCEPTION. This being Pop-punk and emo. Pop punk took off TREMENDOUSLY because it gave teenagers who wanted to PRETEND to be punk an outlet without actually forcing them to listen to the gritty and Visceral lyrics that usually come with traditional punk rock. Today punk rock is still around but seems, in my opinion to be dying slowly. VERY few good punk rock bands exist and even LESS ska bands. It's a dying lifestyle. but you never know, a new band may come out to Reinvigorate punk rock for future generations all we can do is hope and TELL people about the good bands and the classics like the Ramones and The Misfits.
