Long list of earworms

I know most of us have had a song stuck in our head at one timeor another - which are known as earworms.Today, my mother decided to watch the movie Mamma Mia! which, unless you've lived under a rock or in a cave for the last 20 years, you realize is nothing but one long list of Abba songs, all of which are potential earworms. So all day now, I have been trying to get rid of said earworms - I keep hearing bits and pieces of different songs from the movie. I FINALlY got rid of them with, of all songs, "The Piper", by, of all groups, Abba. This song is not in the soundtrack.

Yes, yes, I am really strange, I know... But in the spirit of sharing, I give you Abba's "The Piper", from the album Super Trouper.

Reeka mentioned to me that she found her dad's copy of Rocky Horror Picture Show on VHS. It called to mind fond memories of attending midnight showings at the Highland Village Theater, the Grenada Dinner Theater and hosting home parties. I wax nostalgic and post this video, with stills from the film. Also - the lyrics. Audience yells are in brackets next to the original. Have suggestions? Post 'em in the comments! :)

Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul)

from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Written by Richard O'Brien
Performed by Meat Loaf as Eddie

Whatever happened to Saturday night?
When you dressed up sharp and you felt all right?
I don't seem the same since cosmic light
Came into my life - I thought I was divine!
I used to go for a ride with a chick who'd go
And listen to the music on the radio
A saxophone was blowin' on a rock 'n roll show
We climbed in the back seat, really had a good ti-ime!

CHORUS: Hot patootie, bless my soul! I really love that rock and roll! [Sex, Drugs and Rock And Roll!] (x4)

My head used to swim from the perfume I smelled
My hands fumbled with her white plastic belt
I'd taste her baby pink lipstick and that's when I'd melt
She'd whisper in my ear tonight she really was mine
Get back in front and put some hair oil on
Buddy holly was singing his very last song
With your arms around your girl, you try to sing along
It felt pretty good-WHOA! Really had a good ti-ime!

CHORUS

CODA: Hot patoo-oo-tie! I really love that rock and roll! [Sex, Drugs and Rock And Roll!](REPEAT TO SONG END)

RIP Levon Helm

Another one no one will read, but again, I wanted to say something. Levon Helm, long-time singer/drummer for The Band, died this afternoon at the age of 71. He lost a long battle with throat cancer.

The Rolling Stone story is here.

He will be missed.

Here, he perfoms "The Weight" at Woodstock, NY this past February.

RIP Dick Clark

No one will read this, I bet, as everyone will mumm it. But I want to say it myself. This morning, I was saddened to hear that Dick Clark, of American Bandstand and New Year's Rockin' Eve fame, passed away at 82. He will be missed and remembered.

Lyrics for the song from You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)
From the album Bat Out of Hell
Performed by Meat Loaf
Written by Jim Steinman

(Spoken)

BOY: On a hot summer night would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
GIRL: Will he offer me his mouth?
BOY: Yes
GIRL: Will he offer me his teeth?
BOY: Yes
GIRL: Will he offer me his jaws?
BOY: Yes
GIRL: Will he offer me his hunger?
BOY: Yes
GIRL: Again, will he offer me his hunger?
BOY: Yes!
GIRL: And will he starve without me?
>BOY: Yes!
GIRL: And does he love me?
BOY: Yes.
GIRL: Yes.
BOY: On a hot summer night would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
GIRL: Yes.
BOY: I bet you to say that to all the boys.

(Sung)

It was a hot summer night and the beach was burning
There was fog crawling over the sand
When I listened to your heart I hear the whole world turning
I see the shooting stars falling through your trembling hands

You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining
I was dying just to ask for a taste
We were lying together in a silver lining
By the light of the moon
You know there's not another moment
Not another moment
Not another moment to waste

When you hold me so close that my knees grow weak
And my soul is flying high above the ground
I'm trying to speak but no matter what I do
I just can't seem to make any sound

And then you took the words right out of my mouth
Oh it must have been while you were kissing me
You took the words right out of my mouth
And I swear it's true
I was just about to say I love you
(Love you)
(REPEAT)

Now my body is shaking like a wave on the water
And I guess that I'm beginning to grin
Oooh, we're finally alone and we can do what we want to
The night is young
And ain't no one gonna know where
No one gonna know where
No one's gonna know where you've been

You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining
I was dying just to ask for a taste
We were lying together in a silver lining
By the light of the moon
You know there's not another moment to waste

And then you took the words right out of my mouth...

Childhood Memory

Yesterday, while watching the scroll bar for boomhoarrangs, I noticed a picture that was very familiar - someone had set their default pic as Snoopy, in his WWI flying ace outfit, next to his Sopwith Doghouse. I was carried back briefly to the beginning of the Seventies and the first house my parents ever owned. My mom's father had given us a (then) State-of-the-art Curtis Mathis console stereo, and a component 8-track deck to plug into it. There were several tapes they had bought, one of which was Snoopy And His Friends, by the Royal Guardsmen.

(I now own this album in vinyl form, BTW)

I can remember being 5 years old and listening to that tape over and over and over... I think it broke finally, and my dad did NOT want to replace it... :P

Seeing this fellow's default got me curious to see if there is a video of the band doing the song. GUESS WHAT! =D

I still remember the lyrics to this day! All but the very beginning, but Google helped with that! The song opens with "Achtung! Jetzt wir singen zusammen die Geschichte Über den schweinköpfigen Hund Und den lieben Red Baron!" Which translates (I believe) as "Attention! We're gathered to sing about that pigheaded dog and the beloved Red Baron!"

Just thought I'd share a lil insight into my childhood, which I carry with me always!

It's Reeka's fault...

When they changed the Scroll Bar to the Affixed Bar at the top of the page, I whined in my status about not bein' able to "sing" "I was Scrollin' alooooooooong on Fubar Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" Reeka left me a comment about channeling Van Halen's "Standing On Top of the World" and now it's stuck in my head. So, thank/blame Reeka for today's music gem.

Top of the World
from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
written by Michael Anthony, Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen
performed by Van Halen

Hey, baby. Woo!

I know you believe in me
That's all I ever need. Uh-huh
No no, nothin's gonna stop it
Nothin' will discourage me. Oh, no

Hey baby, uh-it's the only way out
Oh, little darlin', now come on
What's it all about?

Standin' on top of the world
For a little while
Standin' on top of the world
Gonna give it all we got

Oh, I know you wanna touch
I got to have a little taste
I just wanna sink my teeth in that
Fine piece o' real estate. Yeah

Hey baby, woo! Make it nice 'n sweet. Ooh!
Oh, little darlin'
Let's take a walk down Easy Street

Standin' on top of the world
For a little while
Standin' on top of the world
Let's give it all we got

(Ooo-ooo-ooo) Baby, got a feelin'
(Ooo-ooo) Oh, I wanna touch it now
(Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo) See the whole wide world turn upside-down

(Guitar Solo)

Hey baby, woo!

Someday, we'll be standin' on top of the world
For a little while
Standin' on top of the world
'Til we got stung
Standin' on top of the world
For a little while
Standin' on top of the world
Gonna give it all we got

(Standin' on top) Hey baby
(Standin' on top) Hey darlin'. Woo!
Standin' on top
Standin' on top
Standin' on top

Come hear!

A friend sent me the video link below because they know I'm a Deadhead, and it's the best performance I've heard other than the studio version. It's also one of my favorite Dead songs.

Uncle John's Band
from the album Workingman's Dead
written by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia
performed by The Grateful Dead

Well the first days are the hardest days - don't you worry any more,
'Cause when life looks like Easy Street, there is danger at your door
Think this through with me, let me know your mind.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?

It's a buck dancer's choice my friend; better take my advice.
You know all the rules by now and the fire from ice.
Will you come with me, won't you come with me?
Woh - oh, what I want to know, will you come with me?

Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs, Their motto is Don't tread on me.
Come hear the Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the risin' tide

It's the same story the crow told me
It's the only one he knows
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go
Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait
Woh - oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?

I live in a silver mine and I call it Beggar's Tomb
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune
Anybody's choice, I can hear your voice
Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

Come hear the Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the risin' tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide
Come on along, or go alone
He's come to take his children home

Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?
Come hear Uncle John's Band by the riverside,
Got some things to talk about here beside the risin' tide.
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide,
come on along or go alone, he's come to take his children home.

Rock on!
