Twentieth Century Fox wants Mark Wahlberg to star in "Max Payne," a live-action adaptation of the bestselling Rockstar video game that will begin shooting early next year. Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects. The film will be directed by John Moore, the man behind such films as "Behind Enemy Lines," "Flight of the Phoenix" and "The Omen." The script was written by Beau Thorne. Twelve movies are under consideration for the animated feature film Oscar category, meaning there will be three nominees for the category. Submitted features are: "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters," "Bee Movie," "Beowulf," "Meet the Robinsons," "Persepolis," "Ratatouille," "Shrek the Third," "The Simpsons Movie," "Surf's Up," "Tekkonkinkreet" and "TMNT." "Chipmunks," "Beowulf" and "Persepolis" must still complete a portion of the qualifying rules to advance in the voting process. Of the 12, four are cel-animated: "Aqua Teen," "Persepolis," "Simpsons" and "Tekkonkinkreet." That's a big jump from last year, when there were only two cel pics. "Alvin" is a combo of live-action and CGI animation. The rest are CGI toons, with the exception of the performance-capture "Beowulf." Before the list was unveiled Thursday, there was some question -- as there had been with "Polar Express" -- whether motion-capture qualifies as animation or live-action. Nominees for the 80th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22nd at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The New York Times talked to Heath Ledger about playing The Joker in Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated The Dark Knight, opening in theaters on July 18, 2008. Here are clips from the interview: He is here in London filming the latest episode of the "Batman" franchise, "The Dark Knight." It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy" he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much. "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," he said. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing. Here too was his Joker diary, which he began compiling four months before filming began. It is filled with images and thoughts helpful to the Joker back story, like a list of things the Joker would find funny. (AIDS is one of them.) Mr. Ledger seemed almost embarrassed that the book had been spotted, as if he had been caught trying to get extra credit in school.

Full Story: http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=6329&count=0 The New Zealand film and video technicians' guild has posted a few projects that will take place in the area, with "Underworld 3" being on the list. According to the site, the new movie will shoot from January 2008 to March 2008 in Auckland, which matches director Len Wiseman's (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution) earlier comments, when he said that he is aiming to release the movie next year. In an earlier interview, Wiseman has confirmed that the film will be a prequel. "It will be the origin story and we find out things we didn't know about Lucian; he'll have a much bigger part in it," revealed Wiseman. "It will be about the creation [of the races] and what started the war. It will be a period piece. In terms of the writing, a lot of the writing has been done. We've been developing 'Underworld 3' for a while. I won't be directing 'Underworld 3'; I'm just going to be producing and writing." Earlier rumors have stated that Kate Beckinsale's character will not appear in the third installment, but the actress has confirmed that the film "will overlap into the creation of her as well." At this point, it is not known whether Beckinsale will return.

While everyone else is still waiting for the new "I Am Legend" trailer, we already got our hands on it. Unlike the teaser, which stops right before Will Smith finds out that he is not alone, this new trailer actually shows what he sees and what he plans to do about it. "I Am Legend" follows Robert Neville (Smith), the last human being on earth. A mysterious plague has transformed all humans into an army of vampires and Neville spends each day preparing for the battles he must wage at night in order to survive. Directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine), the film hits theaters on December 14th. TRAILER LINK: http://www.worstpreviews.com/trailer.php?id=568&item=1

Sam Raimi, director of the first three Spider-Man films, has revealed that behind-the-scenes meetings about the next movie in the blockbuster comic-based series are going on right now. Raimi, while talking to members of the press about his newly produced vampire horror flick 30 Days of Night, says that fans can expect a fresh take on Spidey in the next film. Raimi, who may or may not direct Spider-Man 4 (he is not yet under contract), says he isn't aware of any plans for a total franchise reboot, but that Sony Pictures has been meeting with different writers "to try and bring a fresh new story and approach" to the series. "I've been in meetings with Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, our producers, and [studio boss] Amy Pascal," Raimi reveals. "Different writers have been coming in and spinning different tales of where Spider-Man could go from here." With a new approach to the Web-slinger being mulled, would Raimi still consider directing? "It would depend on a lot of things," he says. "But it would be great because I love Spider-Man! If we can find the right story... Whatever it is I'm sure it'll be a great story, because a lot of people are working really hard right now to make it really great story." http://movies.ign.com/articles/828/828082p1.html

Thanks to FirstShowing, we now have the official teaser poster for the upcoming Vin Diesel action flick "Babylon AD." It features an up-close look at Diesel's face with a figure in the background. The movie is set in the near future, and is about a mercenary who is charged with delivering a young woman from Russia to Canada. He learns that she has been manipulated by a synthetic virus and what lies inside her could doom the human race. "Babylon A.D." is directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, who last helmed Halle Berry's "Gothika" back in 2003. He seems to be just as popular behind the camera as he is in front. You might remember Kassovitz from "Munich," where he played one of the Mossad agents along side Daniel Craig and Eric Bana. "Babylon A.D." is scheduled to hit theaters on February 29th, 2008. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=6266&count=0

JoBlo got the chance to speak to Jason Statham about some of his upcoming projects, while visiting the set of "Death Race," which is currently filming in Montreal. The big question was whether Statham will have a part in the "GI Joe" movie, which we have been hearing so much about. "The old internet can be quite misleading at times," he explained. "I don't know where that came from. No, no connection with 'GI Joe.'" While denying being in "GI Joe," Statham confirmed that he will be reprising the role of Chev Chelios in the sequel to "Crank." "Oh god, it is f*ckin' ridiculous," he exclaimed. "In a nutshell, if you thought the first one was crazy, this one is ridiculous. I mean, its mad - but in a good way. I couldn't resist. Working with those chaps again and doing something in that vein again, it's something very unique and it gives me a chance to go wild in the aisles." On some other rumored projects, Statham says he's meeting with Luc Besson to talk about "Transporter 3" and that he's "yearning to do Part 3." As for the long rumored "Brazilian Job," Statham says not to get too excited. "Charlize is busy, Wahlberg's a busy man, everybody's busy. There's too many moving parts for that one to come together quickly."
